looking for a SA 22lr for my boy... aware of the bearcats but was just wondering if the grip on the single six is smaller than say a NMV or post-3screw BH? thx!

The New Model Single Six has the XR-3 Red grip frame, which is the same as on the new model Blackhawks (except for the new model flat top Blackhawks, which have the original XR-3 frame.) I'm not sure if the New Vaqueros use the XR-3 or XR-3 Red frame, but someone who knows more than me will be along shortly. In the mean time, check out this page for some good info:

mad1ben2, in the past Ruger has made a the XR3RED grip frame in a shorter version. The shorter frame is around 1/4" shorter and was put on the Single Six 32 Caliber versions. I have found and fit these short grips a few guns. A look on the forum for a WTS or do a WTB in the classifieds or on a auction site for results. Heres a picture of a Single Six with a XR3RED Short Frame installed.
