Single Six Front Sight Post

I have an old 3-screw single six and I love it. The only problem I have, is that I have a terrible time seeing the front sight post when I'm shooting at a black target. It has the half-round front sight and the impulsive child in me wants to paint the front sight post, but every fiber of my being tells me NO. I believe it's soldered in so I don't think I have a lot of options.

Anyone have any tips?

Can't go wrong with Mr. surveyor's advice. Model airplane dope in a flourescent bright color like yellow, orange or green is hard to beat for results and ease of application. Or a colored insert if you don't mind modifying the original sight permanently. the green fiber optic front sight from the Ruger single ten is a more radical option; grind off the original blade sight and drill and tap a hole for the factory attachment screw, size 6-40. Sight is available on line at the Ruger website, $40.
