simply put, no...................the steel frames started with the .44 magnum Super Blackhawk in 1959. It was a larger, dragoon style ( squared back trigger guard)

I know a guy that has a 1971 model 6.5" barrel and he said it's a steel grip frame. I didn't think they did

never know as we used to put Old Army steel frames on various "old models" over the years, so countless others have also done this, no "trick" conversion to use the Old Army steel frames, ,a simple swap, AND you could do it in either steel or stainless steel........any doubt, have him try the 'magnet test' and see if a magnet "sticks" to the grip frame............
