Single-Six Bisley Hammers

Tried adding a Bisley hammer to a Single-Six yesterday and noticed it won't go unless the hammer notch is relieved on the gripframe. Always thought a Bisley hammer would mate to a XR3-RED as a drop in (I've never tried it on the large frame either). So do you guys just mill that recease a little to clear the back of the hammer?

Did you grind the "Bisley hump" off of the hammer? If so, then no alteration to the gripframe should be necessary. But that little hump on the bottom rear of the hammer (below the spur) MUST be removed in order to fit an XR3-RED frame, if I'm not mistaken.

Lee, not sure on the single six. On the larger guns, they re work the back of the hammers. jack

I use the pivot pin and slide both hammers on and scribe the shape of the standard hammer on the Bisley, on both sides. Then simply grind close to the line and finish with a file. Notching the grip frame simlpy looks fugly. There have been some pics of one done that way. I'll try to locate them.

On a side note,,, Lately the existing standard hammer has been short on the hump area... SO I don't take it all off, I leave a little hump so that it fits perfect (flat across) to the ears on the Grip Frame.
The 4.6, .32 Single Six has the Bisley hammer hump removed.

Not a Single Six, But hump removed with a little left to fit perfect.

Single SIX Stainless, Hump Removed, , , , part way again.

YEAH! Don't do it the "fugly" way....... eek!

For OM shooters, lop off the top of the OM hammer and weld on the top of a NM Bisley hammer. One must be aware of the hammer plunger and it's bore.

I reworked my Bisley hammer last night, milling the back hump off. Works fine and mated beautifully to the gripframe ears. Thanks for the advice guys.

Now that you mastered the hammer, try a Bisley trigger as well. You may even like part of the Bisley flare removed from the hammer.

Or contour the ugly web behind the trigger like a Bisley and G2's Vaquero above or my Montado below with grooved SBH trigger.
