Single Six Ammo

The box of Federal bulk, it comes in the white boxes. Federal Match, I think, 325 rounds per box.

Either that or CCI standard velocity.

Bulk Federal or Winchester.

Never, never, never Remington Thurderbolts.

I use CCI sub-sonic because there is much less likelihood of leading with a slower lead bullet going down the barrel. Not that I have had leading problems, just that I try to stay ahead of it. I know that the gun can "eat" anything, but I like to make my cleaning chores easier.

Every gun and ammo combination is a law unto itself, and this is especially true of .22s. Only YOU can tell--by testing--what .22 ammo works best in YOUR gun.

You can start with the cheapest stuff you can find, and work your way up the price scale until you find something that performs to your satisfaction.

Thus endeth the lesson.

Oh,, I have much more than one SS. And I have a lot of ammo I use.

For my general plinking,, I use a lot of Federal cheap stuff. But I also have Federal Gold Medal Match ammo.
I also use CCI, Eley, PMC, Winchester (better grade,) Remington, (better grade & not Thunderbolts,) (different types,) and many other makers.

And I also have a PACO tool to accurize some "average" ammo.

In general,, if you choose either brand,, (Federal or CCI) you'll be on the right track of finding good ammo for your gun.

BUT,, just as Snake45 has said; Each gun & ammo combo is different & you have to find what works for you!

All I have are Ruger Single Six 22s and all I have fired in them is CCI Std. Vel., Mini Mags and Blazer, and 22 mag in the other cylinder. I bought a CZ 457 Varmint that I will start shooting soon, when the temps are back to being above 40. My plan is to make an order of 22 ammo from Midway and CAN NOT afford 1 of everything. So asking what other Single Six shooters use as well as what CZ shooters use and like gives me an idea of where to start on my selection. Thanks for the info guys. Jerry

Winchester M-22 22lr in the Black double pack boxed 500rds each
(1000rds) Box. Available at Walmart.

This I have unbelievably found to be Ultra Accurate. The only other 22lr
I use is Federal Bulk or CCI, has to be Copper Washed though.

I have my Father's 1956 Ruger Single Six. One of my most Accurate
22lr Guns. One reason it is sooo Accurate, I believe, it has the
Best Factory Trigger, must be the Craftsmanship back in Days of Old.

I keep the Forcing Cone clean too. Cut a Braze Brush (a little bit bigger
than bore), enough to fit in Frame Cylinder Window, screw carefully on
22lr rod, and carefully rotate on Forcing Cone.

The Best to you and your Endeavors.

I used to know a dozen or more guys with CZ 452s (I have one too) and every single one of them shot Federal 510 Champions well for some reason. Mine will put 5 rounds into an honest one inch at 100 yards--no, not EVERY time, not even most of the time, but it has done it more than once and is always very close to that.

This past Monday I shot my Single Six from a rest at 10 yards. I shot 15 rounds of CCI Std. Vel. and 15 rounds of CCI Mini Mag. The CCI Std. gave a 3.5" group and the CCI Mini gave a 3" group. I also shot 15 rounds with my SBH and got a 3/4" group so I presume my method of resting a handgun is adequate. This coming Monday I will shoot some CCI Maxi Mags as well as Blazer and then the same stuff again as last Monday. I could be wrong but the groups should be a bit better than what I got.

Not trying to sound critical,, but at 10 yds,, from a rest,, I'd expect much better groups than 3.5" & 3" from most ammo. Especially if you can get a 3/4" group from a Super Blackhawk.

Me too, it should be better. I'll shoot it next Monday and give it one more try. Depending on results I will be in contact with Ruger and send them copies of the targets to see what they say. I don't think I can get it done sooner. Thanks, Jerry
