Single Action Grip Question

I am aware of the differences between Ruger’s single action grip frames – the “new” XR3 as used on the current mid-sized Flat tops (e.g. SS 44 Special, 50th Anniversary 357) and the XR3-RED as used SS Super Blackhawk (4 5/8 barrel). This question has to do with the various grip panels used with each frame.

The black plastic (resin? Hard rubber?) grip panels used on the XR3 guns are much slimmer than the wooden grip panel used on the SS SBH’s. They are thinner in cross section, and fit flush with the frame at the “shoulder” area. See pictures for an example of what I am talking about.

Now the question – Are there any grip panels available (in any material) that duplicate the thinner / slimmer feel of the XR3 black plastic grips that are intended for use on the SBH’s stainless XR3-RED frame?

You might look at Eagle "Gunfighters" - available in several materials. They are very slim from the middle to bottom with a signature "swell" near the top. Otherwise, for something more special a number of excellent gripmakers who frequent this site, among them Carl "Pvt" Schultz and Cary "CaryC" Chapman, I'm sure would be happy to accommodate your specific needs with a nice set of custom wood or micarta grips for very reasonable rates.

Edit. I've also found the newer factory XR3 Red black plastics--similar to the XR3's--seen on current (NM large frame) Blackhawks and Single Sixes - are slimmer than their wood brethren. Although these "fit" on my old large frame stainless Vaquero--as they theoretically should both being XR3 Reds--they left the gripframe a little metal proud. So I've learned "theoretically" is just that when it comes to grip fitting. YMMV but buyer beware.

I know of a custom grip maker that makes thinner grips out of Dupont Corian. I just have not had time to post pictures. PM me and I will give you his email. I do not want spammers to get it.
