Silver Spot Price

Hope I’m not hijacking this thread. Back in, I believe 2005, a friend laughed at me for paying $500/oz for gold. Current spot price is $4999.30. Who’s laughing now.
I bought a lot of gold over the years, but always kept the bar / round denominations small for easy transactions. In the 70's is was $38 and oz. and then jumped. It was $38 / GRAM in 2010. It's $160.73 today. Myth point is that no matter what metal it is, it's way up both due to fear and industrial jump in requirements- but mostly distrust of the dollar. A year ago silver was around $30 per oz. - it more than tripled. A GRAM of gold was around $84 a year ago. It doubled. All happened in one year. Tech requirements didn't jump that quickly-. This is fear / lack of faith based.

I like the small denominations idea. I have often thought about the scenario if I had to resort to gold transactions. With one ounce increments you would probably way way overpay for something you needed when in a SHTF scenario. God forbid. I sure hope I can pass it on to my son and he can have fun with it.

I collected pennies as a kid, started holding the coppers as an early adult. I've got 66 pounds of copper. Rolls of late 40's. And Steels. Kids don't seem interested in things like that these days.
we had interesting coins in our pockets, compared to the junk they have today. When I was going through the pennies I got, the newer zinc ones were the rotted out ones. Really useless.

For most of the history of mankind, the Silver to Gold Ratio has been 15-1 or 16-1. It is currently at 48-1. Which is down from the 100-1 it has been for most of the past two or three decades. Everyone should have some of each. But don't forget about the other "must haves" that have been used as currency/barter through history as well. Lead/ammo, guns, spices, alcohol, etc. We all saw during the beginning of C19 how scarce bottled water and toilet paper got. Be wise and always have a plan. A spare tire is in case you have a flat. Not because you expect to have one...

EXCELLENT post, and how I live my life. If I can be ready for something ( Economic crash, food/water, disease, power down, etc.) , I aim to be. If I can't be specifically ready for something ( nuclear war, asteroid strike, Yellowstone erupting- you know the drill) the so be it. I'm not building a bunker or scanning for space aliens.
The problems brought up here CAN be prepared for.

Ive got about $100 (face value) or so the 90% quarters and dimes… Called the coin shop Friday just to see what they said and was shocked when they told me $52 per $1 face value.

I dont know how the coin business works but i reckon in my mind they were gonna tell me something in the $70-80 range.
Hold 🙂

Check with other shops....if you want to sell.....do not sell for that price..Just hold on to it for now..

Unless your destitute or need $ real bad why trade silver for FRN'S (FederalReserve Notes- paper fiat money).
Worth less each day while precious metals gain each day/week.

I am not selling anything at all now. NOT Selling. It makes no sense to get more green stuff that could go bust at any time. ...
The reason I said $120 - $125 is I thought it was a safe bet, and The Main reason I kind of stayed conservative is, believe it or not, I didn't want to jinx the rise of the Silver...and that is very true. I am hoping it rises much more, and the only reason someone should sell right now is Only they want to purchase some thing big like a truck or a boat, a rental, whatever. That is the only way I would sell my Silver....if I was ready to spend it right away. Spend that profit instead of sitting on green backs. Myself, I am pretty, well actually very conservative and I am set to let things keep rising in value. This is all uncharted territory.. .and yes, I want to keep riding this wave....

Well, there is a LOT more I don't know, than I do about Silver market. I know basically Comex sets price. Have not proved there is a Future's market like soybeans, feeder cattle, corn etc. Yet I hear about all the 'paper' Silver 🧐. Just because corn is priced at $4 don't mean you can sell corn for that. If Spot is $104 that does not mean you can automatically sell for $104. IMO, Ebay is a good place to place value on Silver. It sells everyday, just factor commission, shipping, tax, and the 1099 at end year. I don't understand the foreign influence on price of Silver either. I have tube's of ASE's, but I hav realistic expectation's when I decide to sell. As an investment, I like ExxonMobile I bot for $33 during covid better. It appreciates and pays Dividends. It also Will Sell with one click at current quoted price. Just lots I don't know bout Silver Market

Rest assured that the "Big Boys" will "adjust" things....
They have for 45 yrs, can't hold a beach ball underwater forever. They made billions on shorts and manipulations of "paper silver ".... They had many times more paper contracts than there was actual physical silver... then people started taking delivery. That's just one reason. Slver is "consumed" electrical components., batteries, solar panels , etc.

The reason to want it to level off is because the higher it goes, the farther it will fall when it comes down. And it will. The betting game is on how much. Bet it's not much.

I read today, (1/26/26) that another reason for the sudden jump is that the "big guys" that oversold it were helped by the fed producing even more fiat dollars to bail them out of those unfillable contracts.
It's a "supply and demand" commodity, but the physical silver just plain doesn't exist, so don't expect the price to come down any time soon. Add to the fact that, you, me and Billy Bob don't hold enough to sway a global market that is starving for it for industry.
Edit: Also, as of 1/1 China has stopped exporting it altogether.

Gold is $178.65 per GRAM. This tells me that the dollar is turning to mush. More than 12 states have made PMC (Precious Metal Currency) a legal deal ( they can because they collect sales tax, not the Fed) with many more in the works. The dollar's value is based on the stability of the U.S. Government and it's willingness to pay debts. Faith is pretty much gone for both- go figure. What is still propping it up -it barely holds tenth in world currency strength- is it's position as a World Bank currency- but it's shaky. The Euro or BRIC could possibly take that position, leaving the Dollar as valuable as an Iranian Rial- meaning worthless. I say all this for those such as myself who hold physical metals. DO NOT sell or trade for unstable dollars. Either trade up ( like copper for silver or silver for gold) or use to pay for goods and services. You will get MUCH more value for your metals.

Ain't that the truth. Now, I didn't have these 'in my pocket' at any one time, but if your saved your money and 'collected' coins you could have silver dollars, Buffalo nickels, Indian head pennies, Mercury dimes, a 'silver nickel' if you knew what your were looking at, and steel pennies. Franklin halves and Liberty quarters.

Those were the days!

I had decided Tues I was going to explore selling 100 ASE's. Now as I have commented before, Precious metals are not liquid anywhere near Spot in SW Ark. Was offered 20% below Spot. Then when quantity of 100 was brought up, He said He would not buy period. And this was at a Gold/Silver store. Not a Pawn shop.
