Ruger M77 Mark II the other day. It has the black synthetic skeleton stock with stainless barrel. It is a 300 wsm. I have been reading about how they can have a pretty bad recoil. This one was used but like brand new. It had a new butt pad on it. This gun felt and shot great. It came with a small 4 power scope on it that I need to replace in the future but even with that scope we were driving bullseyes at 200 yards time after time. I already had a favorate deer rifle now I will have two favorates. Just wanted to share my story. I love this gun.

Two observations: A good recoil pad makes a lot of difference. A quality 4X scope is a better aiming tool than lots of folks give it credit for being.

My favorite light weight hunting rifle ( .308) has been wearing a 4X Zeiss for a bunch of years, and I have taken game from up close to way too far (I'm not sure that holding way off hair is a good thing, but I did have a good rest and dead calm.) Enjoy, jack
