Shooting machine guns today

Well the wife and I made the trip out by Pittsburgh (actually closer to WV than to the Burgh) today to shoot machine guns (part of a prize I won at the last gun bash I was at). Stopped in at the Cabelas in WV to look around (it was a zoo) and then ate some lunch before shooting.

Jackie shot a Sten Mk3, I shot a suppressed MP5, a Thompson .45, a FN PS90 and a FN SCAR 17 in 7.62x51, all full auto guns. Guess what, that 7.62 in full auto IS LOUD. I did do short bursts with all the guns and then about 10 rounds straight. What a blast, we had a great time. I did get a video of Jackie shooting the Sten and I'll up load it when I figure out how to.

Love the MP5 but just don't have $25K for one. Hmm, I wonder, since I do have my SOT3 now, if I could convince the Sheriffs Dept that they need to have me demo an MP5 for them? If I could get the Sheriff to write me up a letter requesting that, then I could get a semi auto version and have it converted to full auto at a much, much cheaper price. Hmmm :wink:

I will be helping host a shoot next Saturday and we'll probably go through a few thousand rounds... in all honestly it seems like a waste of good ammo to me. but the folks coming to our 'Gathering' find it a hoot. The guy that brings the guns figured out how to 'get around' most of the NFA bs of owning full auto and such. He just jumped deeper in the pool.... he became a manufacturer... seems it's not that hard or expensive.

One of the funny parts about his story is just after he got his manufacturing license we went to a convention (different type work related) and he would talk to folks about his passion for full auto and pull out of his pocket a machined piece of metal and tell them what it was... would convert most AR15s to full auto. But, he would not tell them that if you or I, regular citizens, got caught with that in our pocket it was 10 years in prison.

Put 50 rounds through a Thompson when I was working at the local PD way back in 1969. They'd drag it out once a year and anyone who wanted to buy their own ammo could play. Then it was cleaned and put away for another year.

Put 50 rounds through a Thompson when I was working at the local PD way back in 1969. They'd drag it out once a year and anyone who wanted to buy their own ammo could play. Then it was cleaned and put away for another year.

We had a tour of the FBI bldg in DC back in '58 (cub scouts) and saw a Thompson firing demo in semi and full.

The father of 1 of my son's college buddies has a Class 3 license. Son went shooting there a couple of times, enjoyed it pretty well! :lol:

1st, I didn't get invited. :evil:

2nd, then he tells me that each of the 4 safes the guy has make mine look like a toy box. :evil: :evil: That was cold! :twisted: (There are times it's obvious that he's his mother's son.... :roll: )

Not me in the photo... don't have a picture of it, but our batalion had a deuce-and-a-half set up for convoy escort with an armored box and one of these on the back (and a pair of M-60s in the front of the box).

So you got two guys sitting in front of a 50 cal? To me that just don't work..... We had a Barret 50 cal at our shoot this past Saturday.... few folk tried it.... at $5 a shot it gets kind of steep. I can't imagine firing one full auto... even welded down. We also had an M60 on a tripod, belt fed.... guys loved it. Best way to try and set off Tenerite.

So you got two guys sitting in front of a 50 cal? To me that just don't work..... We had a Barret 50 cal at our shoot this past Saturday.... few folk tried it.... at $5 a shot it gets kind of steep. The quad 50s were set on a turret that only covered a little over 180 degrees... from one side to the other across the back. Couldn't point it toward the front of the truck.
