This morning, I decided to go out shooting in the desert. I took my H&KP30L .40 cal. and my BHP Mk. III 9mm. I drove out Pyramid Hwy., turned on Winnemucca Rd., then turned off and down a dry creek bed. The last time I was there, I picked up half a barrel of shotgun shells, but I found it trashed worse then before. I found that I still have the bad habit of shooting a little low and to the left, so I aimed high and to the right with both pistols. That solved the problem. Due to progressive arthritis and "trigger finger" (mid-right hand), I had a little problem gripping my P30L and handling the recoil, but the BHP was a lot better. It is my fave pistol anyway. Also, due to my failing memory (80 yrs. old) I forgot to bring a bucket to place the used shells in, along with one of those long handled grabbers that I used the last time. I also forgot my magazine reloader, which made it difficult to reload the only two mags I had in the guns. I forgot to take my extra magazines.
Afterwards, I drove back to Pyramid Hwy. and drove to the lake. Before I got there, I spotted two Bighorn Sheep. I pulled over to take some pictures of them, but they moved away from the highway so I only got some shots of their rear ends as they headed backup to the hills and the mountains beyond. I continued on until I reached the first rise that overlooks Pyramid Lake. There was a couple there and as we engaged in conversation, I found out that they were from New Zealand. Amazing coincidence as a couple of days earlier I was looking at a news report from New Plymouth that had lots of pictures in it. It turns out this couple were from New Plymouth. They had been in L.A. and came up to Reno to visit a friend they had not seen since 2007. Just Amazing to meet someone who were from the same place I had just read about two days earlier.
I traveled to Sutcliffe and had a bite and a beer, then drove around to the south end of the lake to the museum. It is a fascinating place. Then I drove home. Great day trip.
