Shooting gloves???

What glove is recommended for the HEAVY recoiling handguns like the .454 Casull, .460S&W, .475 L, .500 S&W, and the .500 L

If I'm going to shoot a thumper 1-200 rounds, I use an old work out glove with open fingers and padded palm. I don't need it with SA's. I do with my lightweight Kahr PM40 carry gun because the polymer frame is a bit sharp slapping my palm during extended shooting. I recall using it shooting my S&W .44 mag. with full bore hunting loads if I shot it over 100 x's in a session.

I was at Coscos the other day a bought three pair of leather work gloves for $15.00. Good fit, soft and subtle. I think they will fit well in the FA and I can always cut off a finger, of the glove, for that price.

I have a pair of bicycle rideing gloves that are well padded in the heal and thumb area and less padded in the rest of the palm area. And of course the fingers and thumb are cut off. Just another option.

Goat skin leather work gloves work well for me....just be sure that they are fairly tight on your hands.

I have some weight lifter gloves that are cheap at Wally World. They are padded in the palm area.

Exactly. Seems to me like snug fit and abrasion resistance helps more than just padding. Basically, the bones in your hand need some "support" from the violent recoil forces generated by the big boomers.

I was watching a video on YouTube the other day of high speed camera footage taken during the firing of a 450 Marlin BFR (I think that's what it was, might have been something else). All you could see in the video was the guy's hands and wrists, and the gun. When that thing lit off, you could SEE all the structures in the guy's hands and wrist change, like the bones were being pushed apart and crunched together momentarily. I'd imagine something like that over a few years would cause all kinds of problems later in life. Just ask John Taffin.

I went this route also. Picked up a pair on Ebay for total of $5.95. Work very well. Padded in the right spots. Why pay big money for "real" shooting gloves? I guess I am frugal spelled "cheap" as my range bag is a $14.95 Work gear bag from Walmart too. Oh, by the way, the only gun that ever hurt to shoot was the S&W Model 360 PD at 11.3 ounces with full house 125 gr. You don't notice it right off but a few minutes later you will.

Yeah, that's it. I thought it might be the 444. Woosh, that video makes me cringe every time I watch it.

When the S&W .44 Magnum first came out, Major Hatcher's review included the recommendation that shooting gloves be worn. When Charlie Askin reviewed the new gun/caliber, in print he asked Hatcher if he also wore lace panties.

I found that a pair of FootJoy winter leather golf gloves give just enough padding, fit tight and have all the abrasion resistance I need.

I used to work with the sister of an ex-model turned big game hunter. She (the model) was into taking game all over with a .454. She gave my wife some lessons and recommended bicycle gloves. She was more interested in reducing the abrasion from the checkering. However, we found weight lifter gloves will cushion recoil.
