A list like this is meaningless without breaking it down by circumstances/demographics/reason, etc. Purely political agenda pushing.

You could do the same thing with sex, drugs, and rock and roll.

One has to also look at the increase in population since 1999 where the comparison begins.
Sure the numbers have increased but so did the population. Roughly an increase of 4,900.
Curious how that figures into a percentage basis. The population has grown significantly. ps

Alaska the #1 state most likely to be killed by a firearm?
I'm betting on it being another version of the CDC worthless claims of guns
being a national health risk.

As far as Alaska goes, I tend to believe that it has the highest per-capita
number of residents with a gun. Then you add in the number of people
that drink to excess (what else do you do when it is dark and WAY cold for
most of the day (Winters), and it is a possibility. Not likely, but possible.
(Watch "Alaska State Troopers" and see some of what goes down)

There are many other interesting "studies" out that probably give us better
perspective. Try doing a search on "Top 50 most dangerous cities". There
are a plethora of studies out there and the single most telling (to anyone in
the United States) is that there are THREE cities in the US, in the "top 50".
One of the statements in one study said that
Culture Cheat Sheet said:
The world’s most violent cities are almost exclusively in South and Central America. There are a number of factors at work that have led to escalating danger in these areas, none more prominent than the Drug War, and the crushing poverty that envelopes many developing nations. Economically, these are areas that have been struggling for decades, and as people struggle to get ahead, they often turn to crime and violence to make things work.

Most of those Alaska deaths were suicides, probably mostly occurring in winter time. :) Also, those who shot at a bear or Moose and missed, then killed by the animal would be classified as a firearms related death. Shooting a bad guy also counts. The anti-gun folks would count it if you were killed in an auto accident and had a firearm with you.

Let's see....CBS reports that "according to the Brady Campaign....". I think that's about all we need to know about that!
Yep, consider the source. That being said, I worked in Kotzebue, Alaska, the suicide capital of America per capita. I have worked also in the #5 city- Smithville, Tn.

same can be said of Chicago & DC, especially among the political caste: "There are a number of factors at work that have led to escalating danger in these areas, none more prominent than the Drug War, and the crushing poverty that envelopes many developing nations. Economically, these are areas that have been struggling for decades, and as people struggle to get ahead, they often turn to crime and violence to make things work."

But you'll never hear them referred to as "the antigun lobby," which is what they are, will you?

Nope, i be leave it, the suicide rate in the native villages is really high, no jobs, booze and drugs get the best of them. There uneducated, simple folks....and dispair over comes them....sad.......be leave the stats.

33k dead by guns in the usa, 19.7k by suicide, close to 10k by gangs / criminals, so, if you not a criminal of planing on killing your self....Guns are very safe....Scott
