I saw one of these yesterday, rough condition... a shooter, but probably closer to a under the truck seat gun than something you'd be proud to carry...
SS police service six - 4" - barrel profile looked light
marked 200th year .....
.38 special
to me it looked like it had a low back...
I didn't write down the serial number, but I think it was 159-xxxxx
No pitting or rust, but lots of nicks and bruises and the cylinder didn't lock up as tight as I'd like... It looked a little rough around the seams as well... but the screw heads weren't butchered, so I don't know if it has been taken apart or not... The bulb (round part that the crane pivots on) on the crane had an odd angled flat place that looked to be original and not somethinng that someone had done to it.. It didn't seem to affect anything, but did make a noticeable gap where it failed to mate uniformly with the frame... bore look good, cocking, cycling, and trigger pull fine - just a little extra slack on lock up and cyllinder notches that showed some wear..
Assuming it is safe to shoot,
1) what would something like this be worth...
2) did it really have a low back or was I misstaken....
NOTE: I guess I'll need to go back and look at that serial number again.... as the 159-xxx doesn't match up with a 1976 gun....
