Self Medicating

I'm not self medicating myself with booze. The guy at the liquor store wrote me a prescription. Well he called it a receipt..... What ever!!

Carry that to its logical conclusion and we would let pharmacists write prescriptions for medications. I mean they should know more about them and their side effects than a doctor.

My guess is that is we allowed the pharmacists to write prescriptions, we would see a dramatic increase in the sale of pain medications, muscle relaxers, and diet pills.

While I don’t like taking anything if I can avoid it, some doctors can get down right stingy about writing prescriptions when a person does need them.

But if self-medication is your goal with liquor I would recommend 190 proof Everclear.

Brings to mind the old story of pioneers moving west: On their wagon were several barrels, for water, flour etc. On the back of the wagon were two barrels separate from the others.

"What's in those two barrels?" the owner was asked.

I wonder if my Granny's family might have been on that wagon?

Granny, like so many of her generation, always kept a bottle in the cabinet, "for medicinal purposes only." When it came time for her to sell her house to move into a "home", my aunt and a cousin helped clean things out. My cousin gave me a call when they were done:

"You remember that bottle Granny always kept for medicinal purposes? Do you have any idea just how sick that woman was?" I guess Granny had quite the "pharmacy"...

In High School, I had a friend whose family were STRICT Baptists; One night we were just messing around in the kitchen when she started going through the cupboards;

When I was a kid, I helped my aunt and uncle clear out the overgrown yard at their new house. It had been owned by a little old lady. It was just a little grassy spot with an old park style bench at the wood line.

The funny part was behind the bench there was another rotted bench grown over with weeds, and behind that one another older more rotted one. Behind that one? You guessed it....another older more rotted bench. There were ten benches one infront of the other all the way back to the property line. Showing were the lawn once was. When she needed a new bench, she just put it infront of the old one and the yard got smaller and smaller.

We cleared all the brush, and threw out what was left of the benches.

Then it was time to rake up, the area around the benches, was literally paved with nip bottles, thousands of nip whiskey bottles. Ten inches deep in some places. I guess we know how the old lady took her medicine.

If you google prescribing pharmacist you'll find that several states allow pharmacist to write and fill prescribitions for certain meds. I know here in Jacksonville Fl some pharmacists treat people for the flu and other minor ailments. They also give shots for flu, pneumonia, shingles etc.
