At a local show I picked up a Security Six stainless 6 inch barrel, unfired in the original box with owners manual. Now for the question. I checked the serial number chart on Ruger's website. It's a 154 series but the serial number sequence doesn't match the chart. The Ruger 154 series starts with 633xxx. This revolver is 154-060xx. None of the series listed have a zero after the series number except the first year (1972). This something to write Ruger about or do any of you forum members have an explanation?

1978.

Straight from Chad's Reference of Ruger Firearms...

If you looked again at the Ruger site, I think you'd see they only show the first s/n for each year. So Ruger shows the first s/n in in 1978 as 153-60425, and the first s/n in 1979 as 154-63332. Looks like 1978 numbers include everything, 153-60425 thru 154-63331.

So Ruger is in agreement with Chad.

WAYNO.

WAYNO, I saw that. However mine has 154-060xx. That chart starts with 6 after the 154 series no. Thats the puzzle.

You're thinking too hard about this. The last number in 1978 is 154-63331. Your number is less than that, so it's included in this group.

All the numbers between 153-60425 and 154-63331.

Thanks for pulling my head out! I do tend to over think things!!!

This the 2nd time very recently that the extrapolation of s/n's from the Ruger site caused some double thinking.

An unfired Security Six? That's pretty special. Congratulations!

WAYNO.
