Security-Six Question

In my search for a good set of grips for my Security-Six I came across a perfect set except for a chip on the upper corner. I am in the process of fixing it but I was wondering what finish Ruger uses on it's stocks?

any experts out there?

Most likely a low viscosity satin polyurethane, since shellac won't hold up well enough for grips & it's heavier than an oil finish.

You may want to check out a set of these grips that Ruger is currently offering for the Security Six. Some old stock they apparently found recently. Brand new in the package from 25 - 30 years ago. Very nice grips for the price - $20.00. I bought a set for my S. S. and was well satisfied with them. I wish I could find the same type of grips for my Redhawk.

AZshooter, you are probably right. I ended up putting an artist's lacquer on the repair and buffing it with a scouring pad. It matched almost perfectly. I don't know how it will wear, but if it doesn't do well I will go with the polyurethane.


Mike, thank you for that link. Those are cheap enough I can get a pair of them too.
