I have a nice used Security Six in 357 in 3" SS I was thinking of using on horseback in a cross-draw holster. I was thinking SA may be a little safer on horseback that a DA. I cannot see any 357 that I like better that is already set up as a SA with a 3" barrel. I don't want to mess up the revolver but wondered if it would be pretty easy to convert it to fire SA only. What would need to be done? Is it possible to go back to DA? What parts would I need and is there a good source? thanks

It can be used as a SA by cocking it, ...you are taking the long way around on this one and I am cringing at the fact you'd mess up that 2 3/4" Security six that could easily be sold and replaced with a 4 5/8" Blackhawk.

You are fixing a problem that only exists in your head anyway. How often do you need to draw from horseback and "handle" a revolver?

Near as I can figger out, there ain't no difference.... unless you can come up with some cause for accidentally pulling the DA trigger (which is relatively long and hard).

If you really want to emulate a single action, carry it with 5 in the wheel and the hammer down on an empty hole.... but with the action of the -six series, it's kind of redundant to do so.

I hope I never have to fire it from horseback, however, if I do I don't want there to be a involuntary second shot due to some bucking or jigging. I have a 4 5/8 uberti but I like the 3" Security Six since it is shorter and stainless steel. The uberti looks cool and I want to load up some blanks to see if I can shoot some baloons of horseback but I don't feel as good about carrying it for protection. I like my little Security Six for that. So I thought if could have the Security Six made into SA I would have the short barrel lenght, stainless steel, and the advantages of SA on horseback.

twhman, Welcome to the forum. Get rid of the horse, buy a good used Jeep and carry the gun in the glove box! Just kidding! Just get yourself a used Hunter holster (Model 1100-11 or 4500-3) or other good make with a strap that goes "over" the hammer (to prevent the gun firing in the holster even if the trigger gets hung up on something) and your good to go. There is enough of a trigger pull weight that it's almost virtually impossible to inadvertantly fire a second shot with a DA revolver.................................Dick
