SD9 vs SR9

Has anyone here shot a S&W SD9? If so, how does it compare to the SR9? I love my SR9 but Ruger has obviously had some serious issues with it. The prices are pretty close. I like the fact that the S&W has night sights, I think it'd be awesome if Ruger would add that to the SR9.

Anyone know if the S&W has a safety? If so, what kind?

It appears to be just an updated Sigma. I'd rather have an SR9. It appears to have no safety other than the trigger which resembles an M&P tigger.

The SD9 may be a fine gun. I don't know but I would not buy one right now. I have been watching the forum boards for the past few years & it seems like any time a manufacturer comes out with a new model there are teething problems. I remember seeing threads about problems with M&P's when they first came out, The SR9 for the past couple of years, I have even seen some folks that jumped on the Glock 4th generations posting concerns. It is enough to make me believe it's best to wait until a model has been in production for 2 years before buying.

As I learned long ago working in the computer industry, "Never buy 'version 1' of anything!" That's especially true today; I really don't want to carry out the company's field/beta test for them.

That's probably a good rule of thumb. I've never been burned buying a firearm but the iphone and Xbox 360. should have taught me that lesson.

I bought a 9mm XDM compact today to keep my SR9 company, I haven't heard anything negative on them. I think I'll wait and see how the SD9 works out but I like what I've seen so far.

^I am debating between getting an SR9C or the XDm in 3.8" 9mm. The only problem I got is the fact that I am a left handed shooter. I feel as though the XDm's controls may be problematic for a left handed shooter, especially with the slide release. Fossils and guns, can you add any input, since you have the gun physically?

As for the SR9c, is the barrel peening issue the only one problem that still persists after the recall?

The SR9c was never recalled. The SR9 was recalled for a safety issue, the original trigger was replaced by a Glock style trigger.

^Oh sorry, got the two guns mixed up. I feel like this barrel peening issue is a bit over dramatized? It seems many users are still able to fire their pistols just fine. Hmm, it would be nice though to see the problem be fixed.

I've fired the new "Stigma" and it's ok. Nothing to call home about. It is unfair to compare it to my SR9's because I shoot them so much.
