I have been doing this to several Ruger SA's, and feel I have finally refined my technique to the point to share it with the world.
The subject is a .32 H&R single six. born with a 6.5" barrel, last weekend Alan Harton trimmed it to my prefered 5.5" length for me.
Stage one:
using a file making sure to roll it around the barrel so as not to create a flat spot.

Stage 2:
100 grit sandpaper on a sanding block. Run it with the barrel, then against the barrel (pattern at 90 degrees to each other)

Then move to 220 grit. running by hand now, no blocks.
wrapping further arond the barrel.

Now we go to 400. spinning all the way around the barrel, running two patterns at 90 degrees to each other.

finish out at 600

then some brownell's Oxpho blue and buff with 000 steel wool.

Yep, that's exactly how you do it. It's surprising how visible any imperfections become when the surface is polished but your's looks good. The hardest part is back at the forcing cone since there is little area to feather the file marks.

looks good really, nice job......you are taking too much time and effort...cut this down by tearing off 'long' strips of paper ( emery, oxide, whatever ) about 1 inch wide strips and use it like you are shining shoes.......cut your time down , and remove a couple of steps, after draw filing I use "maybe " the 100 grit , and then a 'medium' and finish of with 320....or maybe the cratex wheel on the bench grinder......takes little time this way and comes out ( blends in ) just fine, besides, you can go all the way to and against the cylinder frame. the hardest part is getting out the draw file marks, and not gtting carried away ,keep things "round".....

Bottom line you still did a very nice job..............

( I make it seem easy, but then again, I been doing it since the 60's...)
