What is the best way to scope a .45 colt blackhawk with a 7.5 inch barrel and will be used to shoot pretty heavy loads? thanks in advance

Probably the best way is to buy one of the hunter models that have the recesses in the rib and just use the supplied Ruger rings.

redhawk I totally agree with you but the ones in .45 are pretty scarce around here but if I find I'll be selling my left ___ to get it

The BEST way? I think Robb Barnes had Alan Harton do it to his 414.
Top strap completely redone to the FA style.
I just bought a .45 Blackhawk that has the Leupold D&T scope mount on it.
Second or third I have had with this setup and seems solid.
I was going to pull it off and have the holes filled, probably sell the scope and the mount. Shoot me a PM if interested.

A scope on a "regular" blackhawk is sort of like Mag wheels and a hood scoop on a 73 CHEVY NOVA

I have the above Weaver, and it works well. I also have one for my Single Six. Both guns with a Simmons 4X ProHunter...
They hold solid, and don't mar the gun. You do need to remove the ejector assembly to install them, they don't tell you that in the instructions.

Chuckbuster, if that Nova had a built smallblock 400 and a TH400 it would be a force to be dealt with. Cool little cars.
The guns I pictured are specifically hunters, but change from scope, to red dot, to irons as impulse or usage demands. I love having versatility.

that weaver is exactly what I had in mind. How do you have to move the ejector assembly? could you show the other side of the gun please?

Remove-not move. The SS the mount would not slide over the ejector assy, the Blackhawk the front of the mount would not go on the barrel until I removed the ejector assy. Unfortunately, I have the Backhawk back to irons and wood grips at the moment and no pics of the the other side with the scope mounted. Here's a pic of the SS's other side, the difference in the mount is the Blackhawk does not go around the ejector assy...

Thanks for the pics guys I really appreciate it. one more question . are the weaver ring good or is there a better or should I say stronger ring that will hold up better under heavy recoil
I will not trust my zero to a clamp on mount. The Jack Weigand is the best I have found. Yes, you have to drill and tap 2 holes but that is a simple DIY project. Midway sells the D&T set for about $7. This mount will not move, ever.

I've got the Weaver mount on my Super Blackhawk and didn't have to do anything with my ejector assembly. Went right on and handles my hunting loads quite well.

Surprisingly, I didn't take any photos of the right side of the gun...
Some advice on choice of scope...don't get a variable, unless you can find something that's very low in power range. You'll find that a handgun is tough to shoot with a higher power scope and you'll have a tougher time getting your eye perfectly aligned. The one on my SBH is a 2x - 8x and it never goes above 4x for any practical use. So, my advice is to spend the extra money that you would have on a variable to get a better quality fixed-power in the 2x or 4x range.

that is a great looking set up. I think the weaver mount will suit me well as I will be changing from iron sights and glass. does Simmons still make a straight 2x or did they drop that one I have not been able to find it lately
