My 64 vintage SBH had a latch that looked the same on both sides.Like a flat blade screw head.It broke and popped out.Any idea where I can get one like it?

I believe you've made an error in describing your Super's Base Pin Latch.

The "flat blade screw head" style of base pin latches disappeared long before the advent of the Super Blackhawk.

One side has a standard "flat blade screw slot" and one side requires a "slot head" screw driver.

Give us detailed images if you think my description is in error.

That is kinda what a member here said in a PM.I had just assembled the gun in the evening after taking out the conversion and replacing the origional parts.I have 4 other Ruger SA's and noticed the different latch. The next morning I carried it out to the shop to lock it in the safe. That afternoon I got it out to shoot it and the left half was missing. This gun has been in the factory return box since sept 83.

Ok,, so the gun was sent back to the factory for the conversion,, so it may have had a few other parts replaced if Ruger decided they needed to do so.

The "screw slot" on both sides style of base pin latch was dropped from production and the "drilled through" style was introduced prior to the advent of the Super Blackhawk.

The two styles of latches are NOT interchangeable with out some machine work to the cylinder frame's base pin latch hole on the early style guns. Once machined the Old Style of latch will not work. Ruger performs this procedure to early revolvers when a new latch is required so they can use current production parts.

Current production parts should fix your Super. Many suppliers carry them.
I keep an extra latch assembly in my "range bag".......

I just installed a newer style latch. It works perfectly. If the 2 latches are not interchangeable, that means an old style was installed and not supported properly.Could be why it was a bit banged up and then had broken.Flatgate,I noticed the stainless SBH you had posted pictures of in another thread had a setscrew in the base pin. What thread?
