Hello. I'm new here. I have a NM Blackhawk in .45 LC. I just mounted a scope on it and found that the hammer spur is too high for thumb clearance. I have read that the NM SBH hammer can be used in the BH to provide the needed clearance, but have been unable to find any side by side pictures to compare the two. I need the spur to be about 1/4" lower than it is. Will the SBH hammer really give me the clearance I need? A picture of the two hammers side by side would be helpful. Thanks!

Sorry I don't have side by side photos of the two hammers but I think these two pics show the substantial difference between the two relative to the rear sight. It's at least a 1/4" +.

Good luck finding an SBH hammer from a retail outlet...

Back-ordered for months now...

Welcome to the RF

Not my picture/ STOLEN  , As you can see the Bisley is the shortest, will need to remove what is called the 'hump".

SBH hammers are and have been very scarce, as mentioned.

Standard hammer, Bisley Hammer & Bisley Hammer w/ "hump" partially removed. I only remove the needed material to make it work, leaving some of the hump, when done it's all flat across the gripframe ear flats, no more hole.

These are Single Six Hammers, but the only difference is the length of the neck, picture provided to give you a better idea of "hump" removal.

By my tape measure, the Super hammer's top is 5/8" lower than a Blackhawk's.

Watch our Classified section, New Model Super hammers show up fairly often and are a lot cheaper than Old Model Super hammers.

Thanks guys! Buckeye, I am failing to see what you are calling the "hump" on the Bisley hammer. Maybe if I had one in my grubby hands... I do like the lower look of the Bisley over the SBH. I'll have to check some guns out in person to make a decision, I guess.

Ok here is a flat view of the same hammers.

Thanks. I understand now. I guess it's a matter of finding one now... Doing the "humpectomy" isn't a problem for me. I heated and reshaped my standard spur, but it still isn't as low as the Bisley hammer. I like the wide spur on the Bisley hammer, too.
