The Laser and Avenger were built at the DiamondStar facility jointly owned by Chrysler and Mitsubishi.
Yes they were Mitsu platforms but most everything else was Chrysler...depending on the engine in it.

Both had Mitsubishi powertrains. The Laser (actually, a '91 model; I should learn to proofread) had the non-turbo Mitsu 16V 2.0 four, while the Avenger came with the excellent 3.0 V6. The Laser was a Diamond Star product, but I'm pretty sure that it was an all-Mitsubishi operation by the time the Avenger rolled off the production line.

I still miss my Avenger; it was a wonderful car. Part of the reason I turned away from Mopar, was because I let my local crook of a Dodge dealer talk me into trading "Emma Teal" in for a lemon of an Intrepid...and said dealer not only screwed me on the trade-in and financing; he also milked the Intrepid's extended warranty for all it was worth (and nickeled-and-dimed me almost to death in the process). To be fair, after I caught that dealer charging me for work the car didn't need and started having it serviced elsewhere, the Intrepid turned out to be not quite so lemonish...but by that point I was pretty much soured on Mopar, alas.

Yep, the Laser was the first DS car produced in the plant while the Avenger was indeed all Mitsu. BUT it didn't use the 3.0 V6 it used the 2.5 based on the same block. And if it had the 4 speed auto it was a Chrysler transmission.
Your Intrepid was as much MoPar as my Taurus. It was a Mercedes by then. Mitsu bought out Chrysler's part in 1995. I was thinking it was later than that. Thanks for setting me straight !

However, I was a little disappointed in the reading comprehension of this crowd. Also, my opinion of Palin was formed long before I made this comment. I am not impressed with her, in the least, as I expect people that make a commitment, to honor it. She made a commitment to those people in Alaska to serve as their Governor and walked away before the job was complete. She left that job for political and personal financial expediency ( for some of you, she went for the money)...and I don't think that should trump doing what you say you will do. So, obviously, I differ from the masses on this forum as to what I expect from folks that I hold in high esteem.

How many months was it until we saw that same scary mug face to face with the other one we ended up with, calling each other names and such, as they traveled the Presidential campaign trail. One FORMER (resigned) US Senator from NY vs a "SORTA" US Senator from IL... hmmm...

I've noticed that big, diesel dually pickups can actually go fast on occasion...especially if you overtake and pass them in a little economy car like my Elantra. BMW drivers also really hate that, I've found; it's as if they equate passing them with taking away their Viagra or something... :P

Can you back up any of your OPINIONS with facts? What auto company assembles vehicles in the U.S. using all U.S. made parts? The next to last GM truck I bought in 1980, had a page in the manual that stated that the engine was manufactured, and assembled in Mexico. When I worked for Uncle Whiskers, we often drove Dodge Ram Chargers that bore decals stating that they were manufactured and assembled in Mexico.

Regarding what you refer to as "a pile of imported crap" , my brother once bought his wife a Toyota Camry that had 90,000 miles on the clock. They drove it to 250,000 miles until they had enough children that they couldn't fit in it any more and bought a Ford Excursion (Bad Lemon!). 90,000 to 250,000 on the Camry with nothing but tires, batteries, and oil changes. Not what I would call a pile of imported crap, as you put it.

As stated above already, the new Tundras are made in Texas. That means that American workers are earning a living making them, and the company is paying U.S. taxes.

I see that Government Motors just announced another recall of 718,000 cars for assorted quality control issues - loose bolts, bad welds and steering problems - bringing the total number of GM cars under recall worldwide to 28.7 million units since the start of 2014.

Expect stories to follow of The Wonder Jeep, which gets 150 mpg at 100 mph in 4wd Lo while getting 100k miles per set of tires, hasn't used a drop of oil in 3/4 of a million miles or needed a dollar's worth of repairs, not even a battery, never needs to be washed because it has dirt shedding paint and hasn't a single imported part on it. Probably doesn't even burn imported oil based gasoline. Consider yourself warned. :roll:

Wish my Toyotas (534k miles between three) and Subarus (480k miles between two) were even a tenth as marvelous! S'pose a million miles isn't so bad for a pile of c(rud), though... ;) I'd look for a Jeep next time, but understand they'll probably be coming with complimentary chopsticks, or maybe parmesan cheese packets, in the glove box pretty soon.

Ok, let's see. Chevy Silverado 1500 is 62% U.S. Canada and 34% other countries for a total of 96%

The Nissan Titan is 50% and 20% for a total of 70%

Maybe I'm missing something but that's a high on the chart of 96% and a low of 70%, total. Meaning the U.S. / Canada parts and the parts from other countries combined...so where's the other 4% to 30% of the parts from? Outer space?
