I bought the book probably more than 6 months ago... because I knew this would happen... started reading it and could not put it down... up until 12:00 last night and then could not go to sleep.... I made it through D day with him. If anybody wants to know what it was like on Omaha beach that day... read "The Three Faces" (edit: A Third Face) by Sam Fuller. It is not pleasant and does not hold back. A number of years ago I saw an interview with him where he said you could not show real war in a movie... I think Saving Private Ryan might have gotten close... but it still does not make it to what Fuller describes as he comes in on the third wave. I have to say this is one of the best books I've ever read.... the man was a piece of work... he decided at about age 13 as a copy boy for a newspaper in New York that he wanted to be a crime reporter and actually became one at age 16. He joined up right after Pearl Harbor and numerous times was given the chance to get a reporting/ desk job in the army but refused and was an infantry man from Africa... through Italy and then France and beyond.
I'll probably offer the book up as a Karma when I'm done....
