I just got into reloading, and loaded my first few .243win with the bullets to deep by .059 inches.
Are these safe to shoot?

If you did not load to the max load to start with I don't see .059 causing a problem. Fire one and inspect for pressure signs. If the bolt opens easy and the primer looks ok I would shoot them.

Aside from the above, a handy tool on every loaders bench is a kinetic bullet puller. These are not very expensive but essential if you err in a step of loading and want to salvage the components rather than lose them.

Hi Bucks!

I'd "semi-pull" them. Kinetic puller to get it forward a little longer than the target OAL, back the seater up, reseat. I'm likely wrong to some but I don't care.

they should be fine, in the future make a sample round of what you want and set your dies with that
Sierra used to pack bullets 101 to the box for that very reason...

Think I may have been wrong about being seated to deep. I removed the bolt from thr rifle and dropped in what I thought was a round that was seated to deep. The round did not completely chamber. I think that the ogive is going in and resting on the lands. Ordered the Lock and load tool for setting the depth, should be here by the end of the week.

What bullet/rifle are you using? Something sounds amiss here...Maybe your sizing die adjustment... :?

Any bullet under the 87 gr Hornady has to be seated waaay out there to get anywhere near the rifling in my M-70..

You should always check fitment with a dummy round first...then if OAL is a problem you can resolve an issue before you have made a mistake...a standard 243Win chamber should have plenty of room ahead of the bullet when loaded to proper OAL...

The bullet is the Nosler Varmageddon hollow point in 243. 55gr.
Rifle is a 700 Remington.

I was about to ask if it was a 105 gr....

All the more odd with that short 55 gr pill. Don't see how you can be too long overall. Can you close the bolt easily on a sized but unloaded case?

I agree something is way off here! I think you could load that bullet where it would barely stay in the case and not touch the lands. Have you fired factory ammo or other reloads in this rifle? Have you tried to chamber a factory round? Try an unloaded, sized case in the chamber if you have one. If not pull one bullet with pliers by running the loaded round up through the press with no die, grab bullet and lower the ram. Discard bullet. Resize case again and then try it in the chamber to see if bolt closes ok. If it is a new gun unfired you may need to make a chamber cast with Cerrosafe from Midway or Brownell to see whats up. JMHO

Probably sizing die adjustment. Turn die in until it touches shell holder then turn in a hair more to allow for slop in press.

Are you loading brand new brass? If so, did you run it through a sizing die first?

re catfish621's advice: be careful there. Some presses cam over and the highest point of the ram is just before the handle is at first stroke. You might want to put a .002 feeler gauge on the shell holder when adjusting the die, then use a .001 to make sure you have a little clearance when the ram is at full stroke.

You can make you own OAL gauge out of a freshly size case. Cut a couple of slots in the neck with a Dremel or hacksaw and deburr the slots. Put in a bullet until it is just held in place and then chamber it. What should happen is the lands will push the bullet into the neck, but not grab. So, when you extract, the OAL you get is with that bullet just touching the lands.

Thanks everyone for the input. Most of the suggestions I have done.
I will try the other suggestions this weekend when life is a bit calmer.
