I own three 2 inch S&W Model 60's. Two have pinned barrrels and one does not. I only have a box for the non-pinned one. None of them have locks. Other than a shallow dent in the grip on one of the pinned ones, these are about 98% guns.

My intention is to sell two of these guns and I would like some input as to which one I should keep. Right now, I am assuming that I should keep one of the pinned barrel ones.

Your input will be appreciated.

Thanks

Keep the one you like the best. I'd sway towards the pinned. Are you sure about the barrel lengths? I believe they were either 1 7/8" or 3". I don't know if there were different barrel lengths sold in Canada. I have a shortier 60 no dash I'm kinda fond of.

Keep the OLDEST one.

I find 2" and 3" listed and those in 357 Mag have a 2 1/8" barrel. That's a nominal length at it can vary 1/8 or so but I've personally nevr heard of a 2 1/2 nor do I find it listed in the Third Edition Supica/Nahas reference.

A revolver barrel length is measured from the face of the cylinder. Perhaps therein lies the discrepancy.

Cholo,

Thanks for your reply.

You are correct. They are registered as 2 inch. It was another one of those old age brain farts.

Chosing the one I like best is a problem. They are all about equal.

I have been leaning toward keeping a pinned one, but I didn't know if the metal in the newer non pinned one would be superior.

picketpin,

I screwed up the barrel length. They are all 38 Special only guns.

The oldest one may indeed be my choice.

wheelgun1958,

The only discrepancy was in my recall. They are all 2 inch nominal.

Geezer,

No such luck. They are all 2 inch.

Up here, they are all prohibs for barrel length and fewer and fewer of us can own them. As a result, their value continues to fall.

Take them out and shoot them. Keep the one that shoots better for you and has the best action. More than likely the oldest one.

Thanks folks. I will probably keep the oldest one.

To answer knuckles' question, I need the money more than the guns and they are the only ones I can bring myself to part with right now.

I've got 2 myself. A 2" adj sght model and a newer 60-14 for .357 mag. I won't sell either.

I don't recall ever seeing a 2 inch adjustable sight model 60. Was it a special/custom?

ashland run of 660 guns. they are pretty scarce. here is mine.

by the way, to the original poster: i have a decent old box for an early pinned 60 i would let go for a reasonable price. just let me know if you have any interest in it.

Wheelgunner, With barrels that short I doubt that you would want a .357 Magnum as .38 +P ammo will yield almost identical velocities. The only advantage to 2 inch .357's is that you can use them as fire starters. :)

ar15ed,

That is an interesting Model 60. I like it. It has the large logo like my non-pinned Model 60.

Thank you for the offer of the box. Being prohibs up here, the boxes don't seem to add much, if anything, to the gun's value. I will pass.

SAJohn,

I'm not interested in a 2 inch .357 Model 60. If I was, to get one here, I would have to find a used one that entered Canada before our laws changed.

I too would look first at keeping a.) the oldest, b.) the nicest condition, and c.) the one I shoot the best.

I still don't have a 60 in my modest collection ~ ya just don't see them around here. Hopefully some day I'll cross paths with one I can afford.

Nice avatar by the way. A Husky I assume? For 17 years we had a red female with bi-eyes. Miss her greatly.

hittman,

Thanks for your reply.

Condition wise, there is little to no difference in these three guns. The oldest on has the nicest action, but it is also the one with the mark in the grip (I have not tried the wet rag/iron routine on it because it is factory varnished). The grips on the pinned guns are numbered to the guns.

My shooting days are pretty well gone and I maintain only a modest collection now.

The 2 inch model 60's come up fairly often up here. That is because they, and their three and four inch cousins, cannot be passed on because they are in the prohibited class (can be passed on if they are permanently deactivated-like welded). Only those who owned, and have kept, a short barrel gun prior to the law changes can purchase one used. If one of us, in that catagory, ever sells all of their short barrelled guns, they cannot buy another. New short barrels cannot be purchased here, except for law inforcement and I do not know the ins and outs of that.

I wish that I could sell you one of my model 60 S&W's, but with all of the import/exprort laws that have been developed between our two countries, it would cost you five to ten times what I could sell the gun for up here.

As for my avatar, he (now it) is a five and a half year old pure bread Siberian husky. We bought him out of province (he is from Quebec). He is classed as a grey and white, but he has lots of brown in his coat. His left eye is all blue and his right eye is blue on top and brown on the bottom. That makes him bi-eyed, pi-eyed. He is a little nut, so he fits in here really well with us. We love him to pieces.

I'm sorry that you no longer have your red and white. It is, however, good to know that she was with you for 17 years. I hope that ours stays with us at least that long. I can only imagine how much you miss yours. They have such amazing personalities.
