S+W Model 4013!!!!!

Hello all!

I've been out of the shooting loop for a while now....:shock:

However, it looks like things are about to change! I have a new toy that was another gift from my father!!!!!

If anybody has any history with this gun or any comments at all feel free to post here!!!!!

They have a reputation for being almost flawless guns in terms of function and it's well deserved. I have a 4040PD Airlite, which is very similar but a little different, and I trust it implicitly and explicitly after owning mine. Hogue grips, great function, a very smooth trigger and frankly this is a design S&W should continue to produce, ahem, RIGHT NOW. It's a gun they stopped making for reasons that I think were short sighted. I would buy a new one tomorrow.

Smith and Wesson screwed up in my opinion by not continuing to make some of these 3rd Gen. guns.

I really, really like my 4040PD Airlite and with the Hogue grips especially this is a small gun with a lot of power that still doesn't abuse your hands. I will not sell mine. The 4013 is a bit different but it's still an excellent pistol and you will be well served by it. Take good care of it, there are lots of people who know how good they are and will want them for decades to come.

Just another cookie cutter S&W from the metal frame era. They'll never return to the 39, 2nd and 3rd generation labor intensive masterpieces mass produced for years in Springfield. Like most of the canons that rolled off the assembly line during that era, the 4013 is another masterpiece that always goes bang, is always on target and never breaks. 4013 is another example of getting it right. My S&W M639 is the best pistol I've ever owned as far as function and accuracy goes. Know how old the 639 is? The 4013 is a great gun, enjoy it.

I owned a 4013 many years ago and I currently own a 3913 (same gun in 9mm) that is my favorite carry gun while doing physical work (normally I carry a Glock 19 but if I am doing very physical work I prefer a manual safety).

These 3rd generation Smiths are built like a tank and for a few years these were a real steal on the used market. People started smarting up however in the past few years and they sell for more now then they did say 10-years ago.

They are very accurate, easy to maintain, and very robust guns. The 4013 and 3913 also have the alloy frame which makes them a lot more pleasant to carry then the all stainless guns.

Congrats on a great gun and I hope you keep it as a family heirloom.

Without a doubt this pistol will never be leaving the family. The same goes for his first firearm gift to me, which was a S+W Model 469. I've had a blast with that gun and I'm sure this one will be no different.

The frame and slide have some minor scratches, but seeing as to how this gun will never be going anywhere, I'm strongly considering bringing it down to the local gunsmith to see if he or someone else can possibly do what needs to be done to make it look "new" again?

Dad's guns, nothing like it. My Dad had a S&W .38 with 2" barrel, box is dated 1950. He gave it to me a couple of months before he died. I shot it off & on a few months, and then my daughter turned 30. She was in the process of taking her CCP course and I wrote a short history of where Mom & Dad were in 1950, then mentioned how much his face lighted up whenever she came for a visit. She keeps it by her bed, but while she was searching for a semi carry pistol she had it with her at the gun shop- which is frequented heavily by Columbia (SC) police and sheriffs deputies. She got 7 offers to buy it that day, but she's like me- and you- she'd never get rid of that one.

I had a 3913 many years ago. It was at a time when I was starting to shoot again after not shooting for several years. I couldn't hit anything with it and blamed the gun. Well it was me, not the gun. The gun was flawless in every way and I traded it off like a jerk. Now years later I find myself wanting my 3913 back. I found a used one for $800 the other day. Just more than I can afford for a gun right now. I also hate to spend $800 when that amount and maybe a couple hundred more would buy a nice new gun. Still I miss that Smith. One of the two or three trades that I regret.

Carried a 4013 at work for a while. Nothing fancy but good gun. It was more accurate than my other carry gun which was the larger 4006 with its adjustable sights and longer barrel.

Thats a nice gun I think you will be pleased with the way she handles and hits .When the .40 S&W first came out I wantwd a 4006 but dealers were getting way over M.S.R,P. on then as at first they came onto dealers shelves at a slow tricke [ alot of P.D. had placed large orders for them and they got filled first ] and I ran into a great deal on a Breatta 92FS w/ 3 15 rd mags that had less than 50 ruonds thruogh it s for $425.00 so I got it instead .I never got around to getting my 4006 and now it's too late .'I.M.H.O the39 serise of guns are heads and tails above the guns S&W are building now .I've shot the M&P in .45ACP and didn't like at all .
