Ryobi electric lawnmower recall

last week I got an email from Ryobi about the electric lawn mower recall. I do happen to have the model being recalled.

The recall is from over heating and, I assume, fires.

I actually have two of these lawnmowers. But the other is newer and a different model.

But what’s odd is, I do remember using this particular lawnmower and the battery being so incredibly hot when I got done mowing.

I bought the new one because they were on sale last September and it’s nicer. But the batteries in the new model don't get as hot. Very interesting!

To do this recall you have to cut the power cord in two places and email photos to Ryobi for verification. I guess they are taking this seriously.

And get this, there are 217,000 lawnmower’s being recalled. That is a big job for someone.

And so much trash too. Because now there will be almost a quarter of a million extra lawnmowers in the garbage piles across the country. That is really sad.

That is a lot of mowers going to the dump. Is it a mower defect or really a battery defect? I purchased a new Flex hammer drill about a year and half ago. The drill chuck wasn’t centered perfectly and you could see the bits spinning eccentrically. Flex couldn’t replace the chuck so they told me to just recycle or throw it out. I probably used a half dozen times. They sent a new one. About a month later, I opened the case to use it, only to find both batteries had oozed a gel everywhere. One of the batteries had not been used. It was a coolant for the batteries to prevent overheating. Flex sent two new ones and told me to take the others to a battery recycling center.

I am a little nervous about having so many different lithium ion batteries around me house.

I had a large dehumidifier fail while still in warranty. They also told me to cut the power cord, and cut the manufacture’ plate off. Then send photos of both. They said that they never repair them, just replace or send a refund.
