Run out of ideas, need help.

It has finally happened, I can't think of another firearm I want. The itch is finally cured. So why do I feel so let down.

Pondered getting another M1A, but I've sold or given to family all the M1 A's past.

Pondered another concealed carry price, but nothing seems to satisfy that craving more than the Hellcat I already have.

Revolvers still look fantastic, but the ones I already own are unemployed for the most part.

About the only firearm I don't have is a 22LR carbine, but my .22 center fires more than suffice.

Just flat run out of firearms I'm jonesing for. Guess I need help?
Any suggestions?

They will keep you occupied for a bit and overwhelm you with knowledge and information. You will likely want a number of guns before finishing them. EXCELLENT books.

Sold the Old .380 PPK/S, when I got the Hellcat. Maybe it's time to ponder the nickel versions in .22LR, .32, and .380. If I get one I should probably get all 3? Although I haven't seen the .22 in the walnut handled anywhere.

My favorite bolt action 22lr is a Sako P94S. A great rifle. My 'Killer' is a TippMann Micro Elite AR pistol. In process of SBR'ing it. Holosun 510C and keep a suppressor screwed on it. It is a Armadillo, Possum, Coon kill'n machine. Haul it in the Ranger and it has yet to Jam

If you don't have a 22lr carbine, you most certainly NEED to remedy that shortage-ASAP.
I just divested myself of a pickup load of centerfire long guns(honestly, the cased rifles/shotguns FILLED a pickup bed) but what I didn't sell was the 22's. :rolleyes:

Well, this is where a collector will say; "You already have one XYZ,, why not look for a pristine example,, and start building a collection to go to ROCS shows & display?
Get one as a shooter & one as a collector. You can specialize in just one model & spend decades chasing all the variations. You will NEVER have them all.

It can start with; "Hey,, I want a Blackhawk in every caliber they made." Once they get that,, they say; "Ohh, they make them in different barrel lengths!" You chase that. Next,, it's "Brass frames,, I need a brass frame example." Oops,, they made brass framed guns in different barrel lengths."

Hmm, that's just Old Models. Then there are variations within each model such as Flat tops, etc.
Pretty soon you will discover that you can have a very hard time finding a rarer version of whatever.

The hunt & searching, will never end, and you will never be bored with it.

That's one reason I still enjoy "building" (assembling) my own - the possibilities are endless, from black powder kits, to popular standards like 1911s & ARs, to one-of-a-kind, purpose built Frankenguns. Another option is restoring a formerly nice firearm, either to keep or to pass on (several folks on the forum here enjoy that). Or just sell anything you don't "need", save your pennies and wait until you stumble across something you didn't even know was out there!

Looking back over all of my years of owning guns, it seems to me that the one's which disappointed the most were the one's that I had thought that I wanted the most...Higher end guns mostly...two different 3rd Gen Colt SAA's, a NIB (all-cast) SA Inc "loaded" M1-A, and a NIB Colt Police Positive with the factory nickle finish, and a Colt Gold Cup which was built after the United Auto Workers Union took over Colt. Each one of those either had functioning problems, or was subject to some sort of recall, or had parts break which shouldn't have, or simply turned out to be way over-priced for what I actually got...
Those experiences changed my perspective on buying guns, meaning that these days it's about "needs" not "wants", so whatever spare "gun money" I might have goes into mags, ammo, or support parts for the few guns that I already have......and I'm a happier man for it.

Buy ya a fun gun. One you haven't been needing, wanting or haven't looked for, just something that you might simply think it might be just plain ol fun.
I've picked up a couple of early '50's Remington 22's. Nothing fancy or expensive, just telling me they might be fun. My only reason for buying & they haven't let me down.

The OP said he doesn't own a .22 LR rifle. I was thinking he could build himself a custom 10/22. It would occupy his time & if done properly he could end up with a really nice, although expensive, rifle. I haven't done any AR build beyond assembling a rifle kit ,(assembled upper, lower parts kit), but AR's are fun range guns. Depending on caliber chosen they can be inexpensive to shoot & recoil is minimal.

I was offered a snub nose early 90s SP101. SPs not my thing but they only made these something like 93 to 99 and I can’t remember when I saw one for sale so……I got it.

There’s a low back Security Six here for sale. I’ve already got one ( or 4? ) but I inquired anyway in case it was a consecutive serial number to mine. Promised myself to quit buying duplicates ….but a sucker for different.

Anyway, that’s how I do it. You’ll figure it out and hit your stride!

My two cents:
As was very well stated above, get some higher-end books with lots of photos. I have enjoyed drooling over the pages of collector grade guns, unique or historical guns, one-offs, etc. I ‘owned’ all of them since they were in ‘my’ book. Didn’t cost much, didn’t have to fire any of them so I didn’t spend time or ammo either. If you find an itch that gets started that way, you can simply find more books that chase down the exact trail that you want, either by brand, type or appeal. If you ultimately decide to purchase a gun after all of this, I believe you will be much closer to satisfaction with that purchase after all of the education. Good hunting!

Once I had all the guns I wanted, I focused on making them all the way I wanted. Grips sights slings etc. Then holsters speed loaders magazines etc.

By the time I finished with that Lipsey’s released 4 new S&W Mountain guns.

Now I’m really done. For now.

No way I’d go without an M1A. I tried to give my son one of my Standards. He wanted my Tanker, so I bought him his own.

Once upon a time I met a lot of Great Marines on the 600 KD line. Those Old Boys from the Korea era did about everything at the 600 yard line (breakfast, lunch, Dinner) and I eventually earned a seat. Nowadays those Old Marines and the 600 KD line are gone. Replaced by cowboy and plate shooting, while hunters pistol has taken over for silhouette. After a couple of trips to Fort Stewart the kids tired of Extended long range, and a thousand yard hike takes me a lot longer than it once did.

I enjoy practicing the Old Service rifle at 100-200 KD, but I'm not an AR fanboy. Got one, but I'll probably never shoot competition again. 200 yards is a more of a challenge with a 22LR than an enjoyment, but .223/5.56 is a breeze. Guess that explains why my 22 rifles are all center-fire.

Between the 22LR Kimber 1911 and the Dan Wesson 22 LR Pistol Pack ( toss in a pair of MKII) and I've got sidearms pretty well covered. Collecting vs shooting has never been my thing. Although I've been pondering a Colt Ace if I can find one locally since I began this thread. Maybe even one of the clones if they make them out of steel? Thanks for the input, Please keep it coming until something rekindles the fire.

Ever met a serious Winchester collector? Winchester only made a bazillion different configurations and calibers over the years.
Winchester collectors spend a lifetime searching for every model Winchester ever made.
It's an extremely expensive hobby compared to Ruger.
Some engraved Winchesters go for $25,000- $100,000 dollars.
It's definitely a rich man's hobby.

Start collecting AMT Backups. They came in a variety of calibers.
I had one in .45 and foolishly sold it.
It looked just like the picture.

I have one of those AMT Backups in 45 ACP. It's a freaking handful. Especially with the 35 pound DA-only trigger pull.
I finally changed the springs in mine. It took a while to figure it out, as it has a spring-loaded firing pin like a 1911.
The firing pin spring is so strong that a lighter hammer spring would only slightly dent the primer. I ended up changing the hammer spring and the firing pin spring to get it to cycle reliably.

Well, it looks like I may have gotten the Walther PPK/S Nickel 22 LR bug a bit late. Local Gun Stores (listed on Walther Arms) don't seem to have access to a distributor with any in stock. I can get all the .32 & .380's I want, but the 22LR seems to be a bit of a unicorn right now.

This is nothing but a range fun gun as the 22LR seems to be plagued with failures to feed and other reliability problems. Along with an exceptionally heavy DA trigger pull. Looks like I might have found a quest?

Probably nothing more motivating than you can't have it?

Had all manner of T/C Contenders back when the 400 yard silhouette range was in full swing. Once the range was scrapped to make multiple other discipline ranges, the T/C's moved on down the road. Guess the value of land makes 400 yard pistol ranges a bit scarce here on this side of the Mississippi Nowadays?
