Started a new thread on this one. Didn't want someone to feel that I was trying to hijack 'Ruger won't return gun, really' thread. The focus there shifted a little bit so that's why I'm here. I'm not computer literate enough to figure out how to scan something or copy and paste or any of that other geek stuff, so bare with me.
On 6/10/14 I e-mailed customer service about a BNM-7 I was having issues with I DID include a legitimate serial number, which is not listed in the reply from Ruger.
A request number was included in the response
My inquiry is as follows. "I have a BNM-7 that I would like to send back for a re blue and a tune up. The trigger seems quite "sticky" I don't have a scale to measure the let off weight but it seems excessive. There also seems to be some excessive travel in the trigger. Could you please advise me as to what this may cost at least a ballpark as I do understand that the actual cost can only be determined by direct examination. If I do send it back, could you let me know what the procedure is? Do I need to do this through a ffl?"
The response was short and sweet.
"Unfortunately, we no longer offer service or parts on this discontinued model. You may send in your firearm to our NH facility and we will offer you a buy back of $340.00 for this model only. Please contact our Customer Service Department for further information at 603-865-2442, and one our representatives will be happy to assist you. Thank you for your email"
Then the email goes on to tell you about when the factory is closed for July vacation, different phone numbers, etc., etc.
One of the last lines is........."thank you for your patience and understanding"
If I remember correctly $340.00 was full list on a 7 1/2" Max when they came out.
IMHO they are really just telling you don't send a Max in. I don't think this answered the question that they would "confiscate" it or not. I'm pretty sure you would have to have a return authorization to send a gun to Ruger. I doubt you just see someone shipping them with out one.. So............now we know there IS a buy back for the Max. Maybe if I had one that went through a fire, totally unrepairable, I might, consider sending it in for $340.00, that is if I didn't make a cut away of it first.........a cutaway, hmmmmmm. sounds like that may have earned a spot on my bucket list.
So I guess I have possibly clarified a few things, and then created a few more questions. No wonder collecting Rugers get so interesting, God Bless, Coogs.
