That 1881 must have a large sentimental value to your family!! Awesome!
I always wished Ruger would come out with a No.3 in 243 or 308!

Great looking 1881. Nice restoration. I have my great grandfather's Marlin 1936 in 32 win special. He bought it new in 1936. My grandfather was witness to the purchase. He was 20 at the time. It has been handed down 4 generation. It is in the safe until my 9 year old son is ready. It is about 97%. I love family heirloom guns....ones that stay with the family for generations. It makes me think that it's the way god intended it to be.

Guys, thanks for all your kind comments. I know the purists would consider me some sort of heretic for having the old Marlin restored, but I would never, ever consider selling it. Now it's back in like-new condition - action is smooth as silk, it shoots straight as an arrow - hopefully, it will be passed down & used for another 100+ years to come by future family members.

It really is like having a living piece of family history in the house.

By the way, I forgot to mention in my original post, the other Marlin - Model 60 .22 - is also a family heirloom. My wife inherited it from her grandfather.
