Ruger makes the big time!!! This is Ruger's first full page ad in the American Rifleman Magazine. Before this Ruger only had ads that were a partial page. Looking at the gun pictured it shows a serial number of 4000. Also notice by then the recoil spring support can be seen at the top of the bolt and the grips are missing the escutcheons around the grip screws. Also notice that they are no longer selling to individuals and that to order one you have to go through a dealer. They said to expect delays as current demand exceeds production. Kind of as it is today when Ruger comes out with a new Model.

RENE says "Salt cod boxes were required by Railway Express as as outer packaging with the 4-3/4" Standard automatic pistol until at least s/n 5604 for guns that were shipped to individuals, before Ruger's developed jobber/distribution program."

:)

Cool! I love just looking through my old American Rifleman mags for the old Ruger adds.

Yes Ruger was probably back ordered from individuals at this time and it took awhile to get all of the individual sales off the books. You know bill. He wouldn't turn down a dollar!!!

Wow, I was 4 years old when that ad ran and 18 years later,
I bought my first RST-4 for that exact same price, talk about
holding the line on prices, the year after I got mine, as I recall
the price went up to the princely sum of $41.50, huge increase!
