Ruger Vaquero Case color Blue thinking on factory refinish.

The old model Vaquero in case color blue I recently aquired has lost most of the faux case color on the frame and has small pitts and loss of blue on the grip frame. Ruger has offered to refinish the Vaquero to like todays current Vaquero finish. No charge to me.
Has anyone had this done and what do you think of the results?

Which grips will look the best on a vaquero with the current blued finish applied?

they will do a fine, job, besides it would be on their 'dime' and will last much longer with normal use.

Thanks Dan for the confidence I needed to have the finish redone. Was given an RMA by Ruger today. We will see in a few weeks.

I don't know.... I don't mind my finish fading, gives it that 'antique' look, yet shoots very well. What more can a man ask for. Just one man's opinion :) . But it is your gun and it will have a nice new blued finish when you get it back.

Also a good point. I've got several Vaqueros and my favorite is the one that has the "antique" look. I suppose a blue finish would ruin that. I assume there were plain blue ones back in the day as well as those that had case color.

You can not go wrong with a Ruger finish. I've had one done and seen sevaeral others. Unless there is serious deep pitting, you will have a virtually brand new Ruger! Let's face it, it's done the same way, on the same equipment, by the same skilled people; how could it not look like a new Ruger?

Well thanks for the support. My revolver is still in NH getting a new finish. I asked for new grips to go along with the new finish. The grips it was wearing had been overtightened at some point and had started to break thru the right grip panel. Don't hurt to ask or so they say.

I have a New Vaq,. I sent in for refinish to the original faux case color they attempted to
talk me into all blue, I stuck to my guns and insisted the original finish they will
still do it. Mine was an early production gun and wanted it the way it came originally. ps

I used to call my 32's "Vaqueritos" but they still had "Single Six" written on them. Then I went to the Lipsey 44 Special "Vaquero" because they are a true Vaquerito.

Its your call brother. If it were mine, I'd get it blued and let it wear from there. Every B-Western case colored I had, I sold when they started to wear because it was a constant reminder of a bad job. I switched to stainless because of them.

I am all smiles today. My 2003 Ruger Vaquero came back from the Ruger shop with a new blued finish , new grips , new springs and pawl. They also returned my custom springs and pawl and the original grips. Zero cost to me. Wow what customer service. This one is now prettier than its brother Vaquero I have which is polished stainless and Ivory grips. Yes I am glad I sent it off for the refinish. Looks better than a new one. The blueing is polished up and shiny. Smooth all over. Ill put up some pictures on the FB Ruger Revolver group.

Many years ago, 1969 I think, I bught a used Mk1 w/ muzzle break from late 50's. Quite worn. Back then they advertised a price of $15 to reblue. They said not to send grips.
I sent it off and got it back with a nicer-than-new polish job on the blue and a set of new grips. They also replaced a list of parts totaling $28 at that time. I think that was about half the price of a new one.
I was so thrilled that my father-in-law and I started to buy old Rugers SA at the gun shows and send them back for the $15 jobs :>)
Back then they were polished and blued MUCH nicer, so when they came back after the repolish/reblue they were beautiful!!
Again, left off the old wood grips. came back with new wood grips on the SA's.

I recently picked up a Bisley Vaquero that the previous owner had re-blued by Ruger. I think they did a great job on it:

This is a Ruger reblue job.

I sent it in for a front sight that was soldered on crooked and had a slight gap under the sight base on the right side. They repaired the sight,polished and reblued the entire gun and returned with a ZERO charge against it.
