Ruger Takedown Plate LC9

"@#%$!!" Damn Blasted takedown pin.. New LC9. I've fired just one box of 9mm Winchester FMJ to ensure it operates as it's intended to. I can not get the plastic take down plastic plate along the left side of the slide pushed down to disassemble for cleaning unless I damage it. So, I stopped.

Any suggestions??? I did invest a couple of bucks and purchased a new on from Midway USA. By looking at this new piece, I cant see what would be preventing it from sliding down to release the pin but a piece of plastic. I hope this isn't a piece of junk, prone to cause many more problems! [/b]

try inserting a punch or something small and round and push down on the plate near the inside or next to the gun. This is what I have to do to get mine to slide down far enough to remove the pin. It wants to bind up otherwise.

I had the same issue with mine. I have discovered that if I push the lever down with my thumb nail I sort of have the pressure on the back portion of the plate. Front edge does not work.

Also, after struggling with this for a few days I put a tiny drop of Gunzilla around the plate edges and at the takedown pin as well. Let it set overnight. Worked the plate up and down a couple of times the next morning and now it's as slick as butter. Wipe off excess lube.

Now I pop the plate down, adjust the slide, turn it over and the pin drops out. No fuss.

I love Gunzilla. Use it for cleaning and lube and it's great. Isn't smelly, doesn't attract dirt/dust either. By the way, I got some syringes with needles attached at the local feed store. Fill with Gunzilla; Marvel Mystery Oil; WD40 and have 3 very precice "needle" oilers. Works great.

Thanks to all for responding. I've been shooting since I was eight and never had any issues like this dog gone thing..Thought folks would think i was ready for the rubber gun squad.

I finally got it this morning. Took it out cleaned it and drop a tiny drop of lube on it. Thanks again

Rubber gun squad... Haha. Welcome to mass production... Where sometimes tolerances can stack up. It hopefully will loosen with time. Mine wasn't terribly stiff from the get go, but I've had it for quite awhile. I use my thumb nail. Cutting your nails recently is a good excuse for not cleaning a gun. Haha.
