Ruger Standard magazine issue

I have a couple of Ruger Standards from the MKI days. I WANT to shoot them using the MKII magazines (that I have a lot of) and they work fine in the guns. UNTIL I go to remove the magazine. The factory magazine latch slips into the little gap between the plastic base plate and the steel magazine body, and it becomes a two hand operation to get in there and push the magazine catch back out of the way to free the magazine. This leads to a two part question:

1) will one of the Volquartsen magazine releases, or another extended magazine release correct this?

2) Is Volquartsen the only source of these; and/or is there a better one, and where is best deal on getting one? (or more)
