Way back in 1966, before most of you were born, while attending Utah State I bought my first handgun from a fellow student. A Ruger Single-Six Flat Gate, not that I knew what a Flat Gate was. I even remember the serial number: 5556.
Paid him $18 for it and he threw in a western style holster and belt. Over the next 10 years I put 1000s of rounds thru it. Learned to shoot a handgun. Really enjoyed that little gun.
Sold it to a guy I worked with. :( One of many mistakes I made when it came to selling guns. Never forgot the fun I had with it.
So, when I recently had a chance to pick up a Flat Gate I jumped on it. It had been sent back to Ruger to be refinished. They did an excellent job. Of course, they did the conversion but sent the original parts back with it. I put the original parts back in and now it is like my old SS. Great trigger. To save the OEM grips from wear I sent the frame to Chigs Grips and had him fit a set of Fiddle Back Maple to it. He did his usual fantastic job This will be one I pass down to my son.

She's a beauty! 😉👍
I too sold my first Flatgate, I was cursed with thin, flimsy thumbnails and loading/unloading it made for an unpleasant, and frankly painful shooting session...So, I sold it.
Literally, just a month or so later, I came across an old Premier loading gate at a local gun show...I bought it, put it away, and then many years passed by.
Then one fine day, I encountered another Flatgate fitted with a set of Micro adjustable sights, but the original grips were in rather poor condition. So, after a brief period of haggling with the seller, a deal was agreed upon, and home it came with me.
I then installed the Premier loading gate, and fitted a set of Altamont "aged Ivory" grips, to which I added vintage medallions salvaged from an old set of trashed XR3 grips...And, now it's one of my favorite shooter's...
