Ruger SR9 Frame build vs. Others

The Ruger SR9 and other newer Ruger semi-auto pistol frames are made from black, high performance, glass-filled nylon. I'm curious if this is any different from other manufacturer's polymer frames, i.e, the Glock, S&W line, etc. The glass part really intrigues me. I've never seen that description on the others. What's the scoop? Thanks.

I think it is like fiberglass. It may add to the rigidity of the frame without it I would think there would be a lot of flexing involved and with recoil forces it needs that rigidity.

Alot of firearms manufacturers, these days, make a "plastic gun". NONE are really the BEST, but all are VERY durable and competetive on the market. These guys all use slightly different recipes and designs.

They also use different types of finishes that are similar.

Nitron - Sig
Tennifer - Glock?
Melonite - not sure?

I guess the end result is, its hard to determine what the BEST is, when finding the best is an unobtainable medium.

They are all great. There exist still, those of us who prefer steel guns with maybe a few poly guns in the mix.

Not sure how secret the recipes are for their frame material and finish process. I guess if you really want to know you could call the manufactureres and sweet talk them into divulging the information.

MOST poly frames use a mixture of kevlar injected nylon/fiberglass as a base material. Not sure what the "other stuff" is
