ruger sr45 slide; blue vs stainless

hello;

why the difference? is it simply what was available on day of manufacture or blue slides are early

production pistols? don't really care, just like to why the difference.

I'm left handed and the sr45 or the p90/97 are good options. has the sr45 been a trouble free model?

Cost of materials change, marketing voodoo outlays, customer (distributor) requests, et al.

-Amended to say yes, they are out of productions, and yes, it is a blackened salt bath nitride finish, same as the finish sold as Tennifer, Melonite, etc. :wink:

If I recall correctly the black slides are a nitride finish. I would say whichever you prefer is the one you should get. Here is a link to an article reviewing the pistol & discussing the finish of the slide.

My very early SR9’s stainless slide has the black nitride finish.
But my SR45 slide is the standard stainless. I prefer the 2-tone look on the plastic pistols.

The SR45 I had was an early model and had a stainless slide. If I remember correctly, I was having a hard time finding a black one, and didn't really care much. The stainless model I had for about 6 years maintained it's finish and shot so consistently and flawelessly, that it was boring. A very good underrated pistol for the price. Comfortable to shoot, too.
