Ruger SR 556 FB

I'm not familiar with any of the Ruger 223's but I'm interested in the SR 556 FB. What do you think of it and, assuming you could find one now (which isn't likely), what would one cost? Also, before the current buying craze what were they going for?

They are a piston driven AR. I've seen a few in the competition circle and they keep up just fine with all other ARs. Pre craze prices were around $1500.

There are a lot on GB right now for good prices given the craze. Most are under MSRP of $1995.

I picked up an SR556 about a year and half ago. The gun has been flawless and very accurate. I mounted a Leupold Mk 4 HAMR w/DeltaPoint and both are awesome. Mine was under $1500.00 and I would not take double for it. If you find one buy it.

Carefully check all the ads. I bought a SR-556FB 2 months ago for less than 1300.00 with box, mags, & paperwork. It was listed as an sr-556, priced like an e model.

I have an SR556 and went with the E so I could build it up myself the way I want. I really like the slim hand guard up front. It's a great rifle that is very easy to maintain and run. As noted above, very accurate for a 1:9 twist. Anything from 55 to 62 grain is spot on. Heavier loads vary a tad more.

Also as noted above, search Gunbroker regularly and you can score a deal on an E or FB. Ignore the outrageously priced stuff and keep looking. I saw an FB go for $1800. A bit high but not too nuts. I've seen E models go for $1500...again a premium but not the $2k many others go for.

Bought just before the SHTF for under 1500. Very very satisfied Good luck in your search you will not be disappointed.

bought an E-model the day after Sandy Hook for $1080....I too love the slim design without all the extra rails. Within a week they were selling for up to $2000, some occasionally still bring that much on gubroker. I wouldn't take TRIPLE for it depsite having only put a few rounds through it for lack of wanting to burn up ammo.

The SR-556's are good piston ARs. The FB has the quad-rail forearm and is the heaviest, there is C, CLA and E, all of which are lighter weight than the FB. The CLA and E have the lightweight slim forearm you can customize the way you want without all the extra unused rails.
