My uncle has a new model single six, does not have super on it, in the 4 5/8 barrel with a mag cylinder matched to the gun with a 63 prefix. He carries it as his trapping gun and every time I see him carry it I cringe at the thought it is a 4 5/8. I have a couple of the old XR3 grip frames in 4 5/8 and know they are somewhat harder to come by but I do not know anything about the new model and the shorter barrel. I was able to find the model number, I think, in Ruger and his Guns by Wilson but I can not find my RENE to save my life.

Does he have something that had a low production number or were the short barrel convertibles more common in the new models? He said he would be more then happy to trade it to me for a more common 5 1/2 convertible if it would get me off his back every time he gets a speck of mud on it. Do I need to find a replacement or just stop cringing when I see him drop it in the mud?

Thanks in advance for your insight.

None of the Super Single-Sixes had Super stamped on the frame. The Old models had Single-Six and the New Models had New Model Single-Six. As it's serial number starts with a 63 it's too early for a 200 yr. gun and as it has both cylinders then it is not the Super Rare Single Cylinder .22 only "STAR MODEL" in which only a handfull have been found in blue with a 4 5/8 in. bl. So as it stands there is nothing rare about it as many thousands made. Let him shoot and enjoy it as the short barrels are easy to carry. :D
