Ruger Single Seven - Updated

I went to the local gun show yesterday and this Ruger Single Seven followed me home. New in the box.

It was marked $900. I traded him a SS Single Six and ended up with $600 invested in this one.

I am surprised, around here you have to say it five times before they understand it's not a 357. I still have a couple of single sevens and two of the new single seven birds head pistols left, I had no idea they were priced that high. Congrats!

I have two Single Sevens. One has been converted to a Bisley. I have the parts to convert the other one. It's a project I need to get busy on.

I was on the fence as to whether to keep this gun or to find a new home for it. I already have the 5-1/2" Single Six in 32 H&R set up exactly how I want it and I had concerns about the shorter barrel (4-5/8) on this Single Seven losing too much velocity. I was reading an article yesterday by Brian Pearce in John Taffin's last book "Small Bore Sixguns" in which he developed loads specifically for the Ruger Single Seven. What was interesting was that Brian tested several factory loads in two different Single Sevens, a 4-5/8" and a 7-1/2". The shorter barrel gun only lost between 11 and 48 fps to the longer barrel version.

Worked on the internals and now the trigger releases at 1 lb. 10 oz. with no creep.

Having the stainless steel grip frame the gun was heavy for its size, so I swapped over to an alloy frame and the gun now weighs in at 1 lb. 14 oz. empty. I will blend in the mating surfaces for a better match up. I was originally going to bead blast the grip frame and steel wool it to match the gun's finish, then spray it with clear AlumaHyde II. But the more that I look at it, I really like the two tone finish... kind of unique for a Single Seven.

Looks great to me! I love the two tone look and want to do one for myself.
