I am new on her and wanted to find out what my ruger 357 magnum security six blued six inch barrel is worth?

The value of your revolver would greatly depend on its condition, both mechanically and aesthetically.

Also, coming into play would be the area of the country you live in, and if that particular gun has any particular collector value.

Can you post pictures? And what is the serial number? With that info available there are some folks around here that should be able to give you some opinions.

Here's how to post pictures:

Posting pictures is rather straight forward, once you get your (free) account set up at Photobucket.com or some other photo hosting Website.

You upload your pictures to your Photobucket album. Then, when you are creating your message here to the Forum, next to your picture in Photobucket will be a list of "Links to Share this photo." Simply click on the tab labeled IMG and it will copy all the URL info onto your clipboard. Then paste that in your message and, bingo, you have pictures linked to your message.

You also need to "uncheck" the "Disable BBCode" box located right below the text input box on the Ruger Forum, or instead of getting the actual picture, you get its address.

If you delete the pictures in Photobucket, they will disappear from your forum message also.

Sounds a lot harder than it really is!

I'll go out on a limb and say the price range for most 6" blued Security Sixes is $300 to $400, perhaps $450 NIB. As previously posted it varies mostly on the revolver's condition but also on the circumstances and location of the sale. All else being equal there's a collector premium for the early Low Back frame Security Sixes. You'll have to wait for a collector to post how much of a premium is reasonable.

Really need to know the serial number and the condition. The best way to describe the condition is with several pictures. Also, if you know the round count or any other history behind it that will make it easier to determine a value.

From my collecting experience if it is in good condition, and NOT a collectible, it should bring between $400 - $500 if sold on Gunbroker, a bit less if sold FTF (Gunbroker bidders sometimes go nuts over things that they shouldn't so the price can get inflated).

I'll agree with that estimate, sight unseen. Adjusted for inflation, the Security Six series has effectively not gone up in average value at all since they were discontinued in 1986 ('88 for the Speed Six). Still fine revolvers that just don't wear out under normal use (I have my duty gun from 1978 and it is still as tight and accurate as they come).
Lots of Ruger folks here balk at the guns >$450 but then again, there is no DA revolver today as-well made for $500 or even $600. Comparatively, the mid-80s S&W DA revolvers have doubled or more in (adjusted for inflation) value, and same-era Colt DAs have skyrocketed - in my travels at least... Only Taurus' revolvers have been slower to appreciate, but then back in 1984-85 Taurus as just starting to change their revolvers to modern heat-treating and MIL-spec alloys.
