Hi to all. New to this forum. Recently purchased a Security Six 357 for 200 bucks. Barrel has strong lands and grooves. Bluing is worn. Seems to be tight. Timing seems good. No pitting. Bought it as a self defense gun. Has I beleive original grips with diamond design in wood grips at screw. S/N is 154-6396x. Was wondering when this was produced. Thanks for any input.

This one's pretty new. 1979.

You have a great gun. 200 bucks is a great price for even a shooter-grade Security Six. Got a photo, or further description?

Welcome to the forum!

Hi and welcome,

Great buy on the best kept secret in the medium frame revolver. I have a Police Service Six 4 inch and I feel its my best all around revolver. I also have a GP100 and numerous Smiths but I always fall back on my Police Service Six. I would suggest getting some good aftermarket grips to shoot with. I have the original grips myself but I am saving them and put some Hoques for shooting.
Good luck with yours.

Just found the website and info. Thanks. Great source of information. They actually provide everything you need to check out your firearm.

So...
In 1979 your revolver sold new for around $259 retail. That equates to well over $750 in Obama dollars. You paid $200 and you're wondering whether you got a deal. :?

Either Ruger guns depreciate like a mexican breakfast or I'd say you got a deal on a 'lifetime' revolver that may someday (hopefully never) just save your family's bacon.

;)

Trying to post some pics of my gun. Any help would be appreciated. Saved pics in my Pictures. But can't copy and paste. Thanks.

There's a sticky in the "Gallery" forum that will tell you to do it. Very easy to use and helpful.

Roaddog?
Do you keep that picture in your wallet?......... :D
It has been surfacing a lot!
Actually I'm jealous.. Always wanted one, but all I could get was a 3" model 13 smith.... but it will do......

Pics were taken with my cell phone. Loaded with six talons that came with the gun. Not pretty but I'm sure it will stop almost anything in it's tracks.

Are there any issues that I should be aware of concerning this firearm? Produced in 1979. Thanks, again for everbody's input.
