Hello folks I'm new here on the Ruger forum. Just needed to know ya'lls opions on the Ruger convertible's in all calibers 22lr/m, 357/9mm and 45lc/45acp can'tfind them here in town so I'll have to go shopping. Thanks Sam Burgin

I have a Blackhawk 357/9mm 4 5/8 barrel. Its my best all around revolver. I can't speak for the other versions but in my opinion the revolver is the best deal going.

I have an Old Model 22LR / 22 Mag. Shoots and handles great. Best of both worlds with two calibers to choose from. I've been surprised at how often I enjoy shooting 22 Mag.

Hang around,, you'll see them pop up for sale, and you will want deep pockets,, as they tend to want to multiply!

The are all good guns and there are lots of information about them on here. Things that I have read on the forum concerning the convertibles; the 22/22mag has a barrel that is supposed to be better suited for the 22 mag. This "could" make the other 22 rounds a little less accurate. Couldn't prove it by me as the 22/22mag Single Six is more accurate than I am. The 357/9mm has the same issue as the 357 is .357 where the 9mm is a hair smaller (.355?) and supposedly the 9mm wont group near as well as the 38/357 rounds. The 45c/45acp doesn't have an issue with bore size as both rounds are the same size. You could get different points of impact compared to point of aim depending on the load. Just keep that in mind if you go with a New Vaquero/Vaquero.

I have a Ruger SS Bisley .45 Colt/.45 ACP convertible. It has adjustable sights and I would definitely suggest buying adjustable sighted revolvers when picking a convertible of any caliber. The reason should be obvious if you want to hit what you are aiming at.

Different weight bullets have different POI. I have no trouble sighting my convertible in for various loads from mild to wild in both calibers. Fixed sighted revolvers do not have this luxury...

Don't forget Ruger's 44Mag convertibles!
You can shoot 44 Special and 44 Russian and you don't even need an extra cylinder! :wink:

Welcome to the forum. As already mentioned, you can't go wrong with any of them. I like the 22 because it is really cheap to shoot. I'm also partial to the 45 because I reload and can reload some really stout rounds in the 45 Colt. They're all fun to shoot.

I plan to buy a .357/9mm Blackhawk, mostly to shoot 9mm through it. 9mm is still the cheapest and most common centerfire pistol round out there. You can shoot the cheap steel case Russian stuff all day long long.

I agree, adjustable sights are important, because 158 gr. .357 is not going to have the same POI as 115 gr. 9mm.

You'll most likely find that the 9mm won't be as accurate as the .357--the 9mm bullet is a rather loose fit in the .357 bore, so don't expect target grade accuracy. For informal plinking and "contingency" purposes it is a good choice.

On the other hand, if you learn to cast your own bullets and reload, you can tailor the round to your handgun and get excellent results with both calibers.

I own an assortment of convertibles.

There is still debate over the 9mm/.357 convertible, and many folks profess inaccuracy when using 9mm. Ironically, my 9mm/.357 convertible is my most accurate Blackhawk, even while shooting 9mm's. 8)

Welcome to the forum. Great people with lots of information here. I too have 4 convertibles - two single sixes and two .45 Colt/.45 ACP.

I'm not far from you in Mobile. If you are still interested in a .45 Colt/ACP I may have one for you.

I have this one in 44/44-40 and both have been great for me.

44 more accurate but the 44-40 is much more fun.

I have the Single Six, and both LR and Mags seem to work fine, and POI is very close with both.
