Ruger No.1 scope question?

Im wanting to scope a No.1 RSI in 7x57 I bought recently and I happen to have a new in the box Leupold VX-2 1x4x20mm scope sitting in the safe. Is this scope a decent enough match for this rifle?

I think that would make one effective , handy , good looking setup! You'd have a light quick pointing rifle and at 4x have pleny of scope for the 7x57. I like lower powered scopes IF the crosshairs are fine enough. Some have crosshairs so thick they completely cover a 1"-2" dot at 100 yards. Ive seen 3-9 power scopes like that too. Not any good for accuracy on paper but easy to see the crosshairs out in the woods. There's a trade off but I'll take a fine set every time.

Some rifles seem to be made for a straight tube scope. My Savage 99 308 has an older refurbished Weaver 3x wide view and I really like the looks of the straight tube on a shorter rifle like this. Be sure to put up a picture when you get it done!

IMO, that is the only scope that deserves to go on a No. 1. I use the same set-up and it is very good. Considering that the Camp Perry 1000 yard shoots are limited to 10x in certain classes I don't see the need for a whole lot more magnification.

Something about a huge objective lens on such a nicely proportioned gun completely turns me away.

I like your choice of scope very much. You may want to consider purchasing Ruger offset rings in order to position the scope far enough rearward to obtain proper eye relief at the ocular lens.

I just mounted the same scope on my 50th anniversary 45/70. I used Leupold low rings and they are really low and work great. I will try and get pic up tonight. I went with the heavy crosshairs because they work good in low light on black bear.
