Picked up one of my favorite calibers,a No.1 in 38-55. Serial # places it in the 1989 era. This could be considered NIB. Not familiar with the No.1's having not owned one for a number of years. Is this an unusual caliber and also, what is the rarity of a No. 1 in 38-55? .......Thanks

Yes they are collectible. No one knows "exactly" how many were made, but it's generally accepted that it's somewhere in the 350 range. But who knows - maybe fewer.

My records show the number as 289. All or at least most are in the 132-84xxx range. So not as RARE as say the 6.5 Rem Mag but certainly as rare or rarer than most.

I know 3 guys that have them and all shoot caste bullets and breach load them. I THINK they were made for a specific course of fire/discipline.

That does sound correct. I was thinking of the 1A 22 Hornet. Too many Rugers to remember. . .

Anyway, I like mine and will be holding on to it a while longer.
