I get the vision of a sheriff hanging up a wanted poster and using the butt of his six shooter as a hammer.Why is robustness needed for a .44 Special?
Versatility.
A tough chore with that rubber grip on a GP!

I "had" one and couldn't get rid of it fast enough,it was too big and heavy for the cartridge.
My Redhawk "Backpacker" has one more hole in the cylinder,is more portable,and of course will deliver magnums if desired.
Since getting rid of the GP, I have considered getting a Charter Bulldog ( with an action job),a more appropriate package.

I thought about a Charter, but I was concerned about strength.
I like my Taurus 431.
but the GP looks sexy!

I do like the cartridge,and it's perfect for my New Model Flattop(mid fame).
A tough chore with that rubber grip on a GP!
That model GP has smooth wood grips.....I was considering one. It would make a sweet steel plate banger and fun to handload for. In my opinion the GP is a great platform for it. All depends on how one wants to use it.
Oh, and if I do order one I'm ditching the wood grips for original GP rubber grips with inserts. That's the only way a GP looks like a GP in my eyes.....
I have a Charter Pitbull in 45 ACP and can say it is a fun gun. Have thought of getting a .44 but cannot convince myself that I actually need it.
