I am thinking about getting a Ruger GP100 in 22LR does anybody have one I'd like to know the pros and cons of the revolver if I could please

There were multiple issues with these when they were originally released.

As a plinker, they seemed fine. For speed matches, they didn't hold up, which doesn't make sense being a tiny little round in a full size and relatively heavy revolver.

I/we are hoping Ruger has finally taken these revolvers seriously, as the negative reports have waned.

This is the second nearly identical post concerning these revolvers in a week. I suggest inspecting it closely before purchase.

Mine...After multiple repairs and trips back to Ruger, and ultimately a replacement, the owner of the new replacement reports his is working fine, however he is not a speed shooter.

I have a Match Champion GP100 and it's absolutely wonderful. I have fondled many a GP100 in .22lr but I just haven't pulled the trigger so to speak as my SP101 in .22lr is an absolute tack driver and is my favorite gun. I will caution you about the GP100 in .22lr threads, they dovetail many threads about new gun purchases. Lots of complaints about fit, finish, and things that the purchaser is generally unhappy about. There were some guns that the cylinder was being marred by the firing pin and those needed to be and were repaired/replace. What I am always amazed at is the number of guns that are complained about and even returned to Ruger without ever being fired. The finish on my SP101 isn't perfect, it has a little endshake, and the barrel is canted, but I can hit a fly turd from a distance anytime I want with that gun so I don't want a thing changed.

I have a very early one I bought new. I've referred to it as a "kit gun" as in you
had to finish building it yourself. I had plenty of misfires in double action, razor sharp
edges on parts, burrs on the extractor and cylinder pawls. Binding hard to close
cylinder and I suppose a few others I've forgotten about. Some stone work and polishing
cleaned up knife edges and smoothed the workings. I had to pull and reshape the end
of the firing pin for reliable double action. Went to a eight pound trigger return spring
and if memory serves I put a twelve pound main spring in. I have a dislike for fiber
optic front sights so I made up a new front sight. Chamfered the charge holes for easier
use with speed loaders and polished the chamber walls for easier extraction.
I like the gun now and others who shoot it seem to also.
I doubt you could wear one out and suspect it'll hold up fine to plenty of speed
events.
For the price Ruger really should have done a better job.
I've not handled any of the newer one to see if they've gotten better.

I also have an early model "kit gun" like Dave P., I assume by now Ruger is shipping quality 10 shot GP 100's. Mine now is very smooth and as accurate as my 617's. I got it as another option for speed shooting sports but the DA trigger pull is longer than my 617 and hard to get used to. I had an 8MOA red dot on it at first for speed shooting but I now have a 3MOA red dot for longer range plinking and hunting. I made the dot mount myself because I didn't care for the ones available.

I posted a question a few weeks ago asking for a comparison of a GP100 vs. a 617. Got some of the same answers. Nevertheless I ended up buying a GP.

A deal came up for a slightly used one at an unbelievably low price. By the turn ring on the cylinder I would guess that no more than 10 or 20 rounds went down the pipe. The serial number indicated 2019 production, so I hoped that it was delivered after some of the original issues. My first range trip ran 300 rounds thru it and now the line was slightly noticeable.

Right off the bat I couldn't adjust the rear sight for windage. I'm guessing that's why the PO sold it.
Turned out the spring was bound on the leaf. A mere disassembly and reassembly solved the problem and i was able to zero it in perfectly.

I found the trigger pull to be (amazingly) almost as clean and crisp as a S&W. Accuracy was amazing, even with my old bifocaled eyes.

Bottom line - I'm delighted with the gun and happy I bought it.
