Because the difference in weight between a stainless (SS) and aluminum ejector rod housing (ERH) is a full ounce with the SS being the heavier of the two, I replace the housing on all of my revolvers that have aluminum housings.

Today I received a SS ERH that in no way could have fit any Ruger revolver. It was so far off not only did the housing not lay flat, after getting that out of the way the retaining screw was nowhere close to screwing into the barrel. It took quite a while to get it fit, thanks to Dykem layout fluid.

So I have wondered has anyone found a part so out of whack that it could never have fit a revolver and surmised that a scrap or reject part from Ruger got into the spare parts pipeline?

Yep it happens. I don't like it. But Ruger remedies it and I move on.

Just like everywhere, if Ruger waited to hire only dedicated, trained, knowledgeable employees, they would have to shut down. They hire what's available and hope it works out.

I bought a brand-new Vaquero a while back, mail order, as that's about the only way I can find much of what I buy. The loading gate was so mis-cast and out of shape, it would not completely open or close. How did it get out the door? But it did.

Ruger fixed it in short order. And it probably cost them less to do so than to have a more effective quality control team.
