has anyone shortened a ruger American stock and if so were you able to grind the recoil pad to fit. jrr

The stock is hollow all the way back to the pad which has a reduced dimension rim on it's forward edge that sockets into the hollow stock. The stock interior has two molded in recessed lugs that the Phillips head screws holding the pad thread into. So, shortening the stock would require reshaping this rim and making new lugs for the retaining screws That doesn't seem practical.

Are you aware that the American compact has a shorter pull stock and Ruger may be able to supply one of these stocks as a replacement for your full size one?

I am aware of shorter stocks made for the gun but it is left-handed and when I asked ruger that stock isn't available. Hoping it will come available soon. Thank you

Yeah, I'm left handed too and that's one reason I bought my American as it's one of the few left-handed bolt guns by any one, particularly in it's price range. However, Ruger makes very few variations in left-hand format. I wish they made the stainless version that way but they don't.

Back to the topic at hand: If Ruger doesn't make the compact stock you need, I still don't see a workman like way to shorted the factory full size one.
